Dark Starlet (Speightstown - Flowers and Vines by Blushing John) and Maraschino Red (Medglia d'Oro - Irish Cherry by Irish Open) make their stakes debuts in the $65,000 Deceit Stakes at a mile at Belmont Park. Dark Starlet is a perfect 1 for 1 in her short career, having broken her maiden in a 7 furlong Maiden Special Weight at Gulfstream on April 11. In that one, she came from off the pace to get the win. She's had one work since then. Maraschino Red went gate-to-wire in her maiden score, in her 5th race, going 6 furlongs at Gulfstream on March 22. Since then, she ran in a 6 furlong Allowance race at Keeneland on April 18, finishing 3rd. She has worked twice since that start.

Holdontoyourdream (Proud Citizen - Danzig's Dreamer by Rubiano) finished 3rd in the mile Comely Stakes (gr. II) last time out, on April 11 at Aqueduct. Prior to that, she won two races and finished 2nd once. Those three races were at 6 furlongs at Philadelphia Park. She's had a couple of works at Aqueduct since the Comely.

The other filly with stakes experience is Hopeful Image (Gulch - Marquet Rent by Marquetry) who has faced stakes company in her last three races. She was 3rd in the Bonnie Miss (gr. II) on March 27, 6th in the Forward Gal (gr. II) on January 30, and 5th in the Sweetest Chant on the turf on January 18. As a 2-year old, Hopeful Image was third in the Brave Raj Stakes and 5th in the J J'sdream Stakes. Overall, she has run 10 times, recording 2 wins, 1 second, and 2 thirds. She does have a victory at the Deceit distance.

Yes She's a Lady (Yes It's True - Wonder Lady by Deputy Minister) has won 2 straight, a mile and 70 yard Maiden Special Weight on February 22 at Aqueduct, and a mile Allowance race at Philadelphia Park on April 27 by 7 lengths. In both races, she set the pace and drew off. She is trained by Todd Pletcher, who also trains Dark Starlet.

Completing the field is Olde Glamour (Kelly Kip - Andover Sweep by End Sweep), who also showed speed in her two most recent races. On March 29 in a mile and 70 yard Allowance race at Aqueduct, she finished a nose behind, but was awarded the win via disqualification. On April 23, she finished 2nd in a mile Allowance/Optional Claiming contest at Aqueduct. Olde Glamour broke her maiden on March 15 at Aqueduct in a mile and 70 yard Maiden Special Weight, where she stalked early before taking command late. In her previous 5 starts, she recorded 2 seconds and 3 fourths. This will be the first race in open company for New York-bred Olde Glamour.

Becky's Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Caterette by Cozzene) is entered in Race 5 at Churchill on May 13. However, he is part of an entry with Honor in Peace (Peace Rules - Jeanne's Honor by Honour and Glory), and Elvis Trujillo is named on both, so it is doubtful that they will both run. Since Becky's Kitten worked today, I would expect him to be the one scratched, but you never know. Besides, we haven't had a 2-year old race in awhile, so might as well look at this one.

Becky's Kitten is the first foal out of the winning mare Caterette. Caterette is a half-sister to 3 winners, including stakes winner Enduring Will. Kitten's Joy's 6 runners have made 8 total starts, recording 1 second and 1 third. Becky's Kitten has recorded 6 official works, the last three at Keeneland, including today's 3 furlongs in :36.60.

Honor in Peace has made one previous appearane, finishing 3rd in a 4.5 furlong contest at Keeneland on April 16. He sold for $62,000 as a yearling, and is the first foal out of the winning mare Jeanne's Honor. Jeanne's Honor is a daughter of grade I winner Jeanne Jones, who earned $694,900. Jeanne's Honor is also a half-sister to 5 winners, including stakes-placed Beautiful Gem.

Doc Thunderbolt (Chapel Royal - Lake Barataria by Meadowlake) and True to the Ladies (Yes It's True - Ladies Nite Out by Flying Granville) both ran at Keeneland in 4.5 furlong races on April 23, but not the same race. Doc Thunderbolt, who finished 3rd in his race, sold for $12,500 as a yearling. He is a half-brother to 4 winners, including one 2-year old winner. True to the Ladies was 8th in his start. He sold for $15,000 as a yearling, and is out of stakes winner Ladies Nite Out. Ladies Nite Out won the Silver Spur Stakes as a 2-year old. Ladies Nite Out has produced 5 winners from 6 to run, including stakes winner Lady Mallory. All five of True to the Ladies' siblings won at 2.

Justamatteroftime (Taste of Paradise - Green Mill by Green Dancer) and Korona Kid (Limehouse - Princess Eloise by Chief's Crown) are both by first-crop sires. Justamatteroftime is the 2nd runner for grade I winner Taste of Paradise. Taste of Paradise's other runner, Taste Big, finished 6th in his only start. Millionaire Taste of Paradise finished 10th in his only start at 2, but overall won or placed in 7 graded stakes. Justamatteroftime's dam, Green Mill, was a winner and has produced 2 winners from 2 to run. Limehouse, sire of Korona Kid, has had three starters who have each ran once without a placing. Millionaire Limehouse ran 6 times at 2, recording 3 wins (including his debut) and two thirds. His victories that year included the Three Chimneys Juvenile Stakes and the Bashford Manor Stakes (gr. III). Korona Kid is out of stakes winner Princess Eloise, a winner at 2, who earned $233,475 overall. Princess Eloise has produced 5 winners, including stakes-placed No Affair. One of Korona Kid's siblings won at 2.

Big House Bernie (Bernstein - Criminative by Criminal Type), who sold for $16,000 as a 2-year old, is out of stakes-placed Criminative. Criminative has produced 8 winners, including stakes winners Lx Commander and Native Annie. Four of Big House Bernie's siblings won at 2, and 2 won their debuts that year.

Marathon Moon (Malibu Moon - Showcase by Storm Cat) is the 2nd foal out of the unraced mare Showcase. Showcase is a full-sister to grade I winner Tactical Cat and grade II stakes-placed Storm Passage.

Moon Nistle (Van Nistelrooy - Misti Moon by Formal Dinner) is out of the winning mare Misti Moon. Misti Moon has produced the winner Moon Ruler.
