Ok, enough of resting on laurels from our 2008 stallions, let's get some winners from the 2009 stallions. Zapster (colt; Ghostzapper - Extend by Unbridled's Song) is the second entrant for Ghostzapper. His first runner, Ghost Shadow, finished 6th in her only start, May 31 at Hollywood Park. 2004 Horse of the Year Ghostzapper won his 2-year old debut, and earned $3,446,120 with only one out of the money finish in 11 starts. Zapster is currently my favorite Ghostzapper, based solely on name. Leave it to Dogwood to come up with a great moniker. Zapster is part of a Dogwood entry with Jack in the Pulpit and the same jockey (Abel Castellano) is named on both, so it is likely that only one will enter the starting gate. Zapster sold for $180,000 as a yearling, and is out of stakes winner Extend. Extend was a winner at 2, and earned $436,856 overall. Extend has produced the winner, Kelliher. Zapster has recorded 9 official works, most recently working 4 furlongs in :51.62 on the Saratoga training track on June 2.

The other half of the Dogwood entry, Jack in the Pulpit (Pulpit - Ramatuelle (CHI) by Jeune Homme), is also unraced. He brought $300,000 as a yearling, and is out of stakes winner Ramatuelle. Jack in the Pulpit is Ramatuelle's first foal. Ramatuelle is a half-sister to 5 winners, including Vitra, a group II winner in Chile.

Parthian (Giant's Causeway - Inny River by Seattle Slew), R B Applause (Closing Argument - Lisa's Approval by Farma Way), and Bellissima Luna (Malibu Moon - Easy Action by Crafty Prospector) met on May 20 at Delaware Park in a 4.5 furlong contest, finishing 3rd, 4th, and 5th. It was the first and only start for all three. Parthian sold for $200,000 as a weanling, and $300,000 as a 2-year old. Parthian is a half-brother to 6 winners, including stakes winner Welcome Inn and group II winner Montgomery's Arch. Three of Parthian's siblings won at 2. R B Applause is by first-crop sire Closing Argument, whose 5 runners have made 7 total starts, recording 1 win, 2 seconds, and 1 third, and earnings of $45,890. Grade III Closing Argument himself won 2 races as a 2-year old, including the NATC Futurity. Overall, he earned $986,984 and won or placed in 7 stakes, including victory in the Holy Bull (gr. III) and 2nd in the Kentucky Derby (gr. I). R B Applause is the first foal out of stakes-placed Lisa's Approval, who earned $101,498. Selling for $190,000 at 2 was Bellissima Luna. He is out of Easy Action, who won 2 races at 2 and earned $149,840 overall. Easy Action has produced 2 winners, including grade II stakes-placed Kong's Revenge. Both of her winners won at 2.

The only other experienced entrant is Reward Pending (Grand Reward - Road Affair by Cahill Road), who was 5th in his only start, on April 23 at Aqueduct, while running 4.5 furlongs. Reward Pending is by freshman sire Grand Reward. Grand Reward, who is out of the great filly Serena's Song, has had 6 runners. They have made 8 collective starts, recording 1 second and 1 third. Grade II winner Grand Reward was a winner at 2 and earned $545,844 in his career. Reward Pending is a half-brother to 2 winners.

Also by a first-crop sire is Bossy Mo (Bwana Charlie - Mofus by Forest Wildcat), by Bwana Charlie. Bwana Charlie's 5 starters have made 6 total starts, registering 2 wins and a third, and $49,472. Bwana Charlie did not win at 2, but he was in the money in all 5 of his starts that year. Bwana Charlie earned $388,850 overall, and won or placed in 6 stakes, including wins in the Amsterdam (gr. II) and the Lafayette Stakes (gr. III). Bossy Mo is out of the winning mare Mofus. Mofus is the dam of 2 winners from two to run. One of Bossy Mo's siblings won at 2.

Turf Melody (Maria's Mon - Tricky Bird by Storm Bird) brought $200,000 as a yearling. He is a half-brother to 3 winners, including grade II winner Stanley Park.

Selling for $60,000 as a 2-year old was Monty's Appeal (Montbrook - Valid Silk by Valid Appeal). He is out of the winning mare Valid Silk, who has produced 4 winners, including stakes winner Rocky River. Rocky River won 2 races as a 2-year old, including the Spectacular Bid Stakes.

Just Alright (Awesome Again - Marina Light by Colony Light) is the first foal out of the winning mare Marina Light. Marina Light is a half- or full-sister to 8 winners, including stakes-placed Believe in Prayer.

Royal Troon (Graeme Hall - Royal Damsel by More Royal) is out Royal Damsel, who was a winner at 2 and 3. Royal Damsel is a half-sister to 4 winners.

hardspun 101 - Thanks and I appreciate you asking about Curly. Unfortunately, I don't know too much. He won his first race of the year, an allowance race at Hawthorne on January 9, but hasn't been heard from since. No works or entries. I'll let you know if I find out anything.
