News and Notes

The first runner for the Legends Racing Stable, the partnership of Hall of Fame trainers D. Wayne Lukas, Nick Zito, and Bob Baffert, is scheduled to run in race 5 at Churchill Downs on Friday, June 19. The filly, Rapport (Songandaprayer - Irene's Talkin by At the Threshold), is trained by D. Wayne Lukas. Post time is 8:00 PM ET, as night racing comes to Churchill Downs. Rapport was a $475,000 yearling purchase.

Sue Goes Ballistic, Ghost Shadow 6th Again

Ballistic Sue (City Zip - Really Keen by Rakeen) shot out of the gate lengths in front of the field, but Magic Yodeler (Swiss Yodeler - Magic Rythm by Cahill Road) went after her. Those two soon put plenty of distance between themselves and the others. Ballistic Sue finally shook free in the stretch, but Magic Yodeler did not throw the towel in entirely. She was well clear of the rest of them. I really liked the looks of third-place finisher Hardly Holly (Harlan's Holiday - Hardly Fair by Wolf Power (SAF)), she should be one to watch as the distances increase. Ghost Shadow (Ghostzapper - Gracious Living by Pleasant Colony) was near the back for much of the race, but she did catch up with the pack in the stretch. Yes, she only beat one horse in finishing 6th, but she was only a couple of lengths from 3rd. She certainly showed some interest late, which is a good thing. Watch the Replay.

Other June 18 Results

It took 9 tries, but Wiggle and a Wink (filly; Congaree - Friendofthefamily by Wild Rush) got her Maiden win at Woodbine. She let the early speed go, moved into position, was hopelessly blocked, and still got up for the win. Pocket Patience (filly; Speightstown - Brass in Pocket by Domasca Dan) was part of the early pace, but tired to finish 6th. I still don't have the code figured out to view the Woodbine replays on this page, but you can view a replay on the Race Detail Page.

Mother Ruth (filly; Speightstown - Seven Four Seven by Colonial Affair) scored an impressive victory at Belmont in her 3rd start, running away by 7 in the slop. Unbelievably, this race also included a filly called Mama Ruthie.  Watch the Replay.

Hoopoe (colt; Birdstone - Allou by Seattle Slew) drew into his Maiden race at Belmont, as it came off the turf. He finished 2nd in the 4 horse race. He couldn't gain on the pacesetter (lugging in, didn't help), but he was far in front of the rest. Watch the Replay.

Naughtiest (filly; Congaree - Haughty by Halo) stalked the early pace, then took control, but tired faltered late (bled) and finished 3rd in her Maiden race at Thistledown.

Spirit Seeker (filly; Peace Rules - Wild Gal by Wild Again) was on top early, but tired a bit and finished 3rd in her Starter Allowance at Calder. Watch the Replay.

Mein Fraulein (filly; Saarland - Adena's Girl by Personal Flag) took command early, but weakened late, finishing 3rd in her Allowance race at Churchill Downs. Watch the Replay.

Peace Roll (filly; Peace Rules - Roulette by Storm Bird) was in a decent position, around mid-pack in her Starter Allowance at Hollywood. But, she was wide throughout and ended up 6th. Watch the Replay.

Smarty Marty (filly; Smarty Jones - Frozen Rope by Clever Trick) finished 7th in her Allowance race at Charles Town, after being in tight at the start.

Weekend Fantasy (filly; Pleasantly Perfect - Lassie Connection by Seattle Slew) was pressing the pace early, but dropped back to finish last in her debut at Churchill Downs. It's hard to debut on a sloppy track, throw this one out. Watch the Replay.
