Looming over Becky's Kitten in Louisville

Sweet Alexander (Afleet Alex - Sweet Screamer by Belong to Me) was a scratch, so we were left with Becky's Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Caterette by Cozzene) in the race. Indian Council (Indian Charlie - Noble Cause by Diesis (GB)) reared just before the break, and was off slowly. Steady Eddie (Smarty Jones - Sweet and Steady by Steady Growth) went for the lead, but was soon joined by Becky's Kitten. These two dueled for awhile, but Louisvilleluminary (Pulpit - Copelan's Bid Gal by Copelan) was a menacing presence on the outside. He hit the lead, and this full-brother to Purge pulled away. Making up ground late was Successful Score (Successful Appeal - Big Score by Grand Slam), who closed the gap and finished second. Becky's Kitten tired a little late, finishing 4th. Watch the Replay.

I enjoy  following the MaidenWatch...Do you only cover certain sires? If so, Why?  I also would like to be able to "track" those listed as sales graduates, or homebreds...Perhaps list that info if possible  THANKS

Blood-Horse Staff

tbreds - thank you for your comments. This year, we are concentrating on the offspring of first-crop sires, Afleet Alex, Ghostzapper, Kitten's Joy, Rock Hard Ten, and Saint Liam. The stallions were chosen by readers, beginning on Jan 13 and concluding on Jan 20 Last year, we followed offspring by Birdstone, Congaree, Medaglia d'Oro, Peace Rules, Pleasantly Perfect, Saarland, Smarty Jones, and Speightstown. We are still noting results by those stallions' 3-year olds. One of the reasons that I limited it to 5 this year, is because 8 was too many. However, when I preview a 2-year old race, I do discuss sale prices and family notes for all the horses entered, not just those by our sires. Also, I would encourage readers to comment on any maiden winners, especially, but not limited to, those by first-crop sires.

Regarding your request for listing whether horses are sales graduates or homebreds, I will take it under consideration. I do usually comment on notable sales prices. I am relunctant to add more info to the Stallion pages, but I may.
