Recession Proof (Afleet Alex - Pert Lady by Cox's Ridge), who was scratched from a race at Colonial Downs on June 12, has been entered at Penn National. Recession Proof was our first Afleet Alex worker back in early March. She has been working regularly at Laurel since then, including a 4 furlong work in :49.40 on June 13. She has an apprentice rider aboard here, and so will receive a weight concession of 7 pounds. Recession Proof sold for $40,000 at the Keeneland January 2009 Sale for Horses of all Ages. She is out of the winning mare Pert Lady. Pert Lady is the dam of grade II winner Zavata. Zavata won three races at 2, including the Saratoga Special (gr. II) and the Tremont (gr. III). Overall, he earned $346,533. Afleet Alex has had 7 runners, which have made a combined 11 starts, recording 1 second and 1 third.

Poquita Senorita (Macho Uno - Mystery Bay by Siphon (BRZ)) and Beijin (Repent - El's Red Cat by Forest Wildcat) both finished 3rd in their debuts, which came at 4.5 furlongs. Poquita Senorita, whose start came at Philadelphia Park on June 9, is the 2nd foal out of the unplaced mare Mystery Bay. Mystery Bay's dam, Black Mystery, earned $150,165 and was stakes-placed. Beijin ran at Penn National on May 23. She is the second foal out of the winning mare El's Red Cat. El's Red Cat is a half-sister to 6 winners, including stakes winner Ideveter.

The only other filly with experience is Groovy Warrior (Desert Warrior - Sanctionize by Groovy), who was 5th in her only start, a 4.5 furlong race at Charles Town on June 11. She is out of the winning mare Sanctionize, who has produced 5 winners. Four of Groovy Warrior's siblings won at 2.

Pickels Pub (Freud - Daily Routine by Well Decorated) was a $12,000 yearling, and is out of Daily Routine, who was grade III stakes-placed at 2. Daily Routine has produced 6 winners, including stakes winner Calldara. Four of her offspring won at 2, and two were debut winners.

Premier Cru (colt; Afleet Alex - Restored Hope by He's Bad) worked at Santa Anita, going 3 furlongs in :37.40. Premier Cru was purchased for $225,000 as a yearling for Legends Racing. He is out of grade III winner Restored Hope. Restored Hope has produced 4 winners, including grade III winner Sabellina.

New to this blog, Looks Purrrfect (colt; Kitten's Joy - On Broadway by Rubiano) worked 5 furlongs in 1:04.80 from the gate at Arlington Park. Looks Purrrfect sold for $35,000 as a yearling, and $170,000 as a 2-year old. I was just curious on what happened to Bird Island.  He made a very impressive debut by closing from far back to finish a close third.  Ever since then he hasn't had a workout since.  Anybody know what happened to him?

A very nice Pollard's Vision filly - Vertical Vision is running in the same race as Rock Hard Baby Friday evening- She just missed in her first race.
