Kratisto to be Strong in Delaware

Greeley Rockets over Keith's Kitten and Go Ask Alex

This one was an adventure before they even got in the gate. Air Guard (Maria's Mon - Missile Defense by Unbridled), who had been acting up in the paddock, unseated jockey Larry Melancon once they moved to the track. Melancon decided that he had enough, and they had to find another rider. So, back to the paddock for that one. The rest of the jockeys dismounted and the fillies waited. Keith's Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Silent Emotion by Ghazi), who was on her toes throughout the prelims, escaped and was running loose on the track (I actually had just tweeted, "This may be a test of which 2-year old filly keeps her cool," when Mark Johnson announced that Keith's Kitten was loose. Next tweet was: "It's not Keith's Kitten, who is loose."). The outrider cornered Keith's Kitten fairly quickly, and she didn't seem to be very sweaty. Go Ask Alex (Afleet Alex - Dominique's Joy by Strawberry Road (AUS)) was keeping fairly calm.

After what seemed like an eternity, Air Guard came back onto the track with her new rider (Robert May) and the rest of the jockeys remounted. Hard Lesson (Dynaformer - Hard to Copy by Mr. Prospector) seemed the most upset by the delay, but it was Strong Evidence (Strong Hope - Hard Evidence by Alleged) who threw a bit of a fit as they loaded. I thought that this must be a gate crew's nightmare, twelve mostly unraced 2-year old fillies after a delay, but they got everyone in without too much trouble. Greeley's Rocket (Mr. Greeley - Clay's Rocket by American Chance) leaped out of the gate and was soon 2 lengths clear. But, Keith's Kitten and Shesa Bucker (Came Home - Siru by Silver Deputy) soon closed on the leader to make a race of it. Go Ask Alex was close up too, but she tired and would end up finishing 9th. In the stretch, Greeley's Rocket pulled away from her pursuers, winning by better than 5. Keith's Kitten finished second, despite drifting out in the stretch. Even though this was only 5 furlongs, you have to wonder if her earlier adventures took something out of her. Regardless, I can't wait to see both of our fillies back on the turf. Watch the Replay.

The Bison City stakes was very exciting despite Retraceable not running well. Jaystone ran very well in his race.

I see that Rachel has headed to Saratoga for the summer - what a life....

I got to see Jaystone in his new barn today ( he got claimed) and he is the tiniest thing. So cute and sweet. He just may be the smallest Birdstone I've seen this year so far.

He ran a nice race too and I expect him to tear up the NY bred races this summer.

As for the Filly AirGuard, an umbrella flew into her path causing her to be spooked. She did not unseat her rider he choose to dismount and a new Jockey was hired. Robert May had NO problems in riding the filly and offered to ride her at any point. Some Jockeys need to retire, many horses flip over and dismount their riders and they move forward
