Phil's Prospect Strong Over Kratisto

  • Comments

Royal Troon (Graeme Hall - Royal Damsel by More Royal), part of an entry with Stormy Ocean (Stormy Atlantic - Our Royal Dancer by Roy), was a scratch. Cherokee Empire (Cherokee Run - Top Marks by Marquetry) was bucking in the stall when they were putting the tack on, and Stormy Ocean was a bit aggravated. Then the call came, "loose horse in the paddock." Naturally, it was Kratisto (Afleet Alex - Torch by Risen Star). Luckily, they cornered him quickly and the post parade was only delayed a little. The break was pretty even, but Kratisto was soon 5 lengths behind the pack. Up front, Cherokee Empire took the lead, but was soon joined by Phil's Prospect (Soto - Hyatt Road by Allen's Prospect). These two dueled for a time, but Phil's Prospect soon drew off. He took the race by more than 5. Stormy Ocean moved into second, and favorite Parthian (Giant's Causeway - Inny River by Seattle Slew) settled for third, with Cherokee Empire tiring to fourth. Kratisto made up some ground on the outside, and was then switched inside to finish 6th. He galloped out strongly, passing the winner. I know that they don't award checks for the gallop out, but it is a good sign. Phil's Prospect is a half-brother to stakes winner Rock On Justin, who won the Miracle Wood Stakes this year.
