No Blanks Here

First time starter Zilva (Successful Appeal - Spellmaker by Storm Cat) was taking all of the early money. But, three race veteran Wild Hare (Wild Zone - Rabbit by Clever Trick) was the favorite as the gates opened. Nita's Magic (David Copperfield - Canberra by Silver Hawk) and Two Wonders (Three Wonders - Royal Advantage by Regal Classic) were scratched. Draw a Blank (Saint Liam - Forget About It (IRE) by Be My Guest) was virtually ignored by the bettors (16-1), despite her good debut. As in Draw a Blank's debut on June 14, Golden Guilder (Aptitude - Ruby Rubles by Scarlet Ibis) broke on top, pursued by Draw a Blank. These two began to put daylight between themselves and the rest fairly quickly. In the stretch, Draw a Blank moved to the lead. Golden Guilder fought back, but Draw a Blank prevailed by a long neck.  Golden Guilder was a good 3 lengths in front of third-place Wild Hare. Picking up lots of ground late was the early favorite Zilva. She's definitely one to watch next time out. Watch the Replay.

I think the difference in this race (compared with June 14) was the start. In the June 14 race, Draw a Blank broke outward and then was rushed up to press. Here, she broke much better. Also, there was no Maddie's Odyssey waiting to run them both she and Golden Guilder down. Speaking of Maddie's Odyssey, I think this result flatters her since not only did she defeat Golden Guilder and Draw a Blank on June 14, but she also finished in front of Wild Hare on May 29.

Draw a Blank is the first U.S. winner for Saint Liam. She is a half-sister to stakes winners Parole Board and Remain Silent. Saint Liam did have a winner in Russia in June, the colt Invest (Saint Liam - Impending Bear by Farma Way). However, that win does not seem to be recognized by the Jockey Club as yet. I assume this is a communication issue? They do report Invest's importation to Russia. Does anyone know how long it takes Russian victories to be recognized?

Nice win by Draw a Blank - I wish there was going to be more than 1 crop by St Liam....

Another very good win was by That's How I Roll - a two year old

Speightstown filly - she may have a nice future.

I'm glad someone mentioned That's How I Roll. I was going to say something and forgot. She's a full-sister to 3-year old stakes-placed Chattertown. Guess that's a cross that works!

Ok, apparently Community Server won't let me post the replay in the comment box. But, you can watch the replay here.

It was only a maiden claimer but a first time 2 year old Peace Rules was quite impressive in her race at Pleasanton. She won gate to wire by almost 8 lengths easily - you can watch the replay for free on Calracing -The filly's name is Izzy Rules
