News and Notes
The 2-year old Medaglia d'Oro filly Dashing Debby (Medaglia d'Oro - Marquet Rent by Marquetry) debuted in the J J'sdream Stakes at Calder, and romped, winning by 10. Watch the Replay.
Also at Calder, Homeboykris (gelding; Roman Ruler - One Last Salute by Salutely) became the 7th winner for his sire, Roman Ruler. Watch the Replay.
As noted by reader AnneM, the 2-year old filly Izzy Rules (Peace Rules - Da Dance by Dayjur) is now a perfect 2 for 2, adding the Juan Gonzalez Memorial Stakes to her resume.
Humor Me Rene (filly; Kitten's Joy - Star of Humor by Distorted Humor), who was entered at the Curragh on July 11, did not run.
Mississippi Hippie Runs Away from Dean and Zapster
Some nice looking horses in this one, and the bettors had a difficult time deciding as well. Dean's Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Summer Theatre by Ide) was the favorite early on, but the entry of Zapster (Ghostzapper - Extend by Unbridled's Song) and Halo Coco (More Than Ready - Attico by Atticus) were favored when the gates sprung. Dean's Kitten looked ready in the post parade. Zapster is a sharp looking gray. El Commodore (El Prado (IRE)) - Fancy Clancy by Rahy) certainly has some presence. He looked like a man among boys in the warm-up. At the break, Mississippi Hippie (Dance Master - Debt Free by Fly So Free) went right to the front, with El Commodore and Zapster in close pursuit. Dean's Kitten secured a good position just behind these. In the stretch, El Commodore dropped back, as Billions Boy (Johannesburg - Royal Wonder by Kingmambo) came running, but Mississippi Hippie kept on going. Dean's Kitten had to check late, which may have cost him second, but he finished a good third. Zapster also finished well in fourth. Both of these should improve next time out. El Commodore tired to 7th, but I can't wait to see that one again. Cause I Can (More Than Ready - Silver Rail by Dispersal) was eased. Gray (Unbridled's Song - Cautious Cat by Storm Cat) and MTO entrant Green Bananas (Eurosilver - Avide by Wall Street Dancer) were scratched. Watch the Replay.

3-year old Stakes Results July 11
Rapid Redux (colt; Pleasantly Perfect - Thiscatsforcaryl by Storm Cat) set the early pace in the 1 1/16 mile Long Branch Stakes at Monmouth, but tired to 8th as his stablemate Atomic Rain won the race. Despite the Odds (colt; Speightstown - Lady Aloma by Cozzene) ran a good race, never far off, he took the lead in the stretch, but couldn't hold off Atomic Rain. Despite the Odds, however, did outfight Papa Clem for second. Watch the Replay. Read more about the Long Branch here.
Cassidys Pride (filly; Medaglia d'Oro - Cassidy by Jolie's Halo) was involved early in the Azalea Stakes (gr. III) at Calder, but tired late to finish 7th. Watch the Replay. Read more about the Azalea here.
Maiden Ourwingman (colt; Peace Rules - Inner Circle by El Gran Senor) provided a thrill for awhile in the American Dreamer Stakes, doing his best imitation of Presious Passion, winging out to a 6th length lead. But, he couldn't sustain it and finished 11th (last). Still, I could see why his connections have been trying to get him on the turf. Medaglia d'Onore (colt; Medaglia d'Oro - Always Ready by Dixieland Band) was scratched, as predicted. The winner was Grand Cash. Watch the Replay.
Other 3-year old Results July 11
Dance the Cha Cha (gelding; Congaree - Garden Dance by El Prado (IRE)) dueled early, and then drew off for a more than 3 length win in his Maiden Special Weight on the sloppy Thistledown track.
Atalanta Veloz (filly; Medaglia d'Oro - Mandy Mack by Native Prospector) led early, was passed, but then regained command to win her Maiden Claiming race at Woodbine.
Adam's Nay (colt; Pleasantly Perfect - Senorita Spike by El Gran Senor) pressed the pace, took the lead, but couldn't keep off the closers, finishing third in his Maiden Special Weight at Penn National. The Cat Rules (colt; Peace Rules - Hey Bob a Reba by Cox's Ridge) was in a good position, then lost some ground while racing wide, finishing 6th. Watch the Replay.
Arcodoro (colt; Medaglia d'Oro - Northern Gulch by Gulch) was hot before his Maiden Special Weight on the turf at Hollywood Park, stalked the early pace, made a bid, but could do no better than 4th. I was right about one thing, he went off as the favorite. Watch the Replay.
Sarah Cataldo (filly; Smarty Jones - Mescalina by Smarten) made up a few spots late to finish 5th in her Allowance/Optional Claiming contest at Delaware Park. Watch the Replay.
Blue Haze Day (filly; Birdstone - Ice'em by Two Punch) pressed the early pace, lugged in on the turn, and then tired to 10th in her Allowance/Optional Claiming race at Arlington Park. Watch the Replay.
Pappy's Double H (gelding; Birdstone - Charmed Aura by Halo) didn't have a very good experience in his first start. He was pinched back at the start, and then checked and didn't show much interest after that, finishing 7th (last) in his Maiden Special Weight at Belmont. Watch the Replay.
