News and Notes
Humor Me Rene (filly; Kitten's Joy - Star of Humor by Distorted Humor), who was third last time out on July 2 at Bellewstown in Ireland, goes to the Curragh on July 11 to make her 4th start.
Mehni Tames the Kittens and Ciminella
With the scratch of Straight A Student (Posse - Dynamic Girl by Bold Executive), all 4 Maiden Watch horses made it into the race. Raise the Kitty (Kitten's Joy - Elevate by Cox's Ridge) was part of the favored entry with Dad's Crazy (Langfuhr - Charismatic Lady by End Sweep), which hovered around 2-1. The Ramsey entry of Lisa's Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Chianti Red by Woodman) and Jill's Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Southern Barfly by Southern Halo) was around 5-1, while Ciminella (Afleet Alex - Bruanna by Housebuster) was in the double-digits. Lisa's Kitten made a very good impression in the paddock and in the post parade. Key Quality (Elusive Quality - Forest Key by Green Forest) also was a nice looker, but looked as though she might do better stretching out. Mehndi (Pulpit - Dubai Visit by Quiet American) was on her toes and ready for action. Lisa's Kitten and Jill's Kitten broke on top, but Alwaysinmydreams (Cat Dreams - Treatmelikealady by Distinctive Pro) took the early lead. Jill's Kitten began to fade in the stretch, but Lisa's Kitten stayed with it. Dad's Crazy made a move into second, but tired a bit late. Finishing full of energy on the outside was Mehndi, who motored by them all to win several lengths. Pretty B (Matty G - Pretty City by Carson City) moved late to take 2nd away from Lisa's Kitten. Lisa's Kitten ran a nice race, finishing 3rd, despite steadying on the turf. Our other runners did not fair as well. Jill's Kitten tired to 9th, and neither Raise the Kitty nor Ciminella were involved much, finishing 8th and 10th. Watch the Replay.

Rutledge Stars Over Alex a Fortiori
Breezy Boy (Louis Quatorze - Breezy Bray by Yarrow Brae) objected to the saddling, rearing in his stall. Alex a Fortiori (Afleet Alex - Channel Crossing by Deputy Minister) looked good in the paddock, and had some spring in his step. He had his rider up and they were just giving Breezy Boy's jockey a leg up, when everything stopped. The reason soon became clear, a loose horse. For once, it wasn't one of ours. Instead, Jacoby's Treat (Endeavouring - Aye Jacoby by Aye's Turn) had gotten away in the paddock and headed out to the track. He was a late scratch. After this delay, they all loaded into the gate fairly easily. It was after the break that the trouble began. First, Beau Mec (Railway Cat - Blue Nile by King of the Nile) came out of the gate awkwardly and spotted the field several lengths, and Alex a Fortiori was also off slowly. Then, the saddle slipped on Breezy Boy as he was establishing position on the inside. His jockey, J. D. Acosta hit the deck, but he got up and walked off and appeared to be ok. Breezy Boy certainly seemed fine, as he went on with the race. Bowdle (Domestic Dispute - Ogygianna by Ogygian) led those with riders in the early going, but Rutledge Star (Oratory - Just Dews by Radio Star) made a big move on the turn to sweep into the lead. Evening Concerto (Concerto - Almost Aprom Queen by Montbrook) moved into second while racing wide, and Alex a Fortiori was along late to take third. A good debut for Alex a Fortiori, who made up a lot of ground in this 4.5 furlong contest. By the way, the riderless Breezy Boy was right with the winner at the finish, despite going very wide. Watch that one next time out. Rutledge Star is the third winner for freshman sire Oratory. Watch the Replay.
