The Cat Robs the Kitten

I tuned in early to catch the preliminaries in the paddock, but the only view was of the empty track. The tractors went by once, and then again. Then, an ambulance, but still no horses. Finally, there was a glimpse of horses. It seemed like it was the post parade, but it was hard to see. Suddenly the camera switched, and the horses were running. Robbery Cat (Cat Thief - Swing City by Carson City) shot out of the gate and was soon clear of the rest. Sweet Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Sweet Kassidy by Saint Ballado) stumbled a bit at the break, but recovered pretty quickly. She and Joanies Girl (Wheelaway - Quaze Lady by Incinderator) went after Robbery Cat. Joanies Girl soon dropped back, but Sweet Kitten kept up the pressure. Sweet Kitten made a move on the turn and seemed to momentarily take the lead, but Robbery Cat came back for the win. This was Robbery Cat's 4th win without a loss. This is the 2nd time that Sweet Kitten has finished 2nd to the winning machine of Robbery Cat. If Sweet Kitten could just find a Maiden race to run in, she should be able to get her first win. Watch the Replay (July 15, race 1).

Irish is Sure Over Zori's Eye

Tribecky (Saint Liam - Double Jeopardy by Horse Chestnut SAF)) was scratched from this one, as was Special Victory (Victory Gallop - Special Appeal by Salwars). The favorite was 2 race veteran Miss Dixie Rose (Dixieland Band - Tigress Woods by A. P. Indy). Zori's Eye (Rock Hard Ten - Congratulations by Mercedes Won) made quite a first impression. She is definitely her father's daughter, no delicate flower here, this is one big girl. Deterrence (Action This Day - Salt de Tere by Salt Lake) made a positive appearance in the paddock, while Mizz Liza (Mizzen Mast - Far Afield by Distant View) was a little rambunctious. Zori's Eye was squeezed at the start, but she shrugged that off and emerged from the pack with the lead. Surely Irish (E Dubai - Beau Blush by Rahy) was pressing on the inside. Surely Irish made up ground on the turn, and moved into the lead. She drew off to win by more than 3, but Zori's Eye was better than 4 in front of the rest. Miss Dixie Rose, who hit the gate at the start, was along for third. Debuting at 7 furlongs isn't the easiest task, Surely Irish's experience was probably the difference. I can't wait to see Zori's Eye's next start. Watch the Replay.

Getting the Upperline Over Maggi

Afleet Maggi (Afleet Alex - Mindset by Coronado's Quest), who was adding lasix for this start, was the post time favorite. Dewberry Hill (Arch - Royal Dove (IRE) by Royal Academy) was a scratch. Upperline (Maria's Mon - Snowflake (IRE) by Caerleon) was a little rambunctious in the post parade, but not as much as Harpoon Hattie (Tiznow - Hardy Har Har by Storm Cat), who bucked off Inez Karlsson. She was soon back aboard, however. When the gates opened, there was a scramble up front, with Wild Oration (Oratory - Bar the Way by Rollicking), Screen Legend (Tiznow - Little Indian Girl by Indian Charlie), and Bayou Miss (Dixie Union - Jaramar Rain by Thunder Gulch) all battling. Just behind these were Upperline and Afleet Maggi. Afleet Maggi made her move in the stretch, and seemed poised for victory, but Upperline came running between horses and jumped to the lead. Afleet Maggi kept trying, but she couldn't get to Upperline and took second. However, Afleet Maggi was a good 6 lengths in front of Screen Legend. Watch the Replay.
