News and Notes
Octogarian (filly; Rock Hard Ten - Coronda Rose by Coronado's Quest), impressive debut winner on July 9 at Hollywood Park, is expected to make her next start in the Sorrento Stakes on August 7 at Del Mar.
Curly worked at Arlington Park, 4 furlongs in :53.00.
Saviour Screens Feather Nestin'
The two experienced horses, Australis Princess (Werblin - Polish Words by Quiet American) and Tapaline (Eavesdropper - Desert Dream by Olympio) took most of the attention at the windows. Feather Nestin' (Saint Liam - Prairie Princess by Rocky Mountain) was getting no respect, 47-1 when the gates opened. To my eyes, Screen Saviour (Hook and Ladder - Screen Happy by Brunswick) looked good, while Suavecito (Holy Bull - Stop the Meeting by General Meeting) was looking very lively. Everyone was fairly well composed in the warm-up, just a little fuss on loading. Feather Nestin' broke well and went to the lead, but she had company from Suavecito. Those two went pretty quick the first quarter, :22.29. Screen Saviour came up the inside and went by the two pacesetters. They stuck around for awhile, but tired. Suavecito ended up 6th and Feather Nestin' was 8th (last). Tapaline chased Screen Saviour home, but couldn't catch her. It was a long way back to Australis Princess in third. Bailzee (Grand Slam - Golden Gale by Summer Squall) was scratched. Even though Feather Nestin' ended up last, it wasn't a bad debut since she set the early pace. Watch the Replay.
