Kratisto Comes Home Strongest

  • Comments

Winslow Homer (Unbridled's Song - Summer Raven by Summer Squall) took the bulk of the attention from the bettors, going off at 3-5. Golden Ghost (Ghostzapper - Mandy's Gold by Gilded Time) was 17-1, and Kratisto (Afleet Alex - Torch by Risen Star) 25-1. Morumsco (Not For Love - Rich Legacy by Polish Numbers) was scratched. Three Day Rush (Harlan's Holiday - Predictress by Vicar) looked uncertain in the paddock, while Hudson Steele (Johannesburg - Strike the Sky by Smart Strike) reactived negatively to a sponge bath. Kratisto and Golden Ghost both made positive impressions, but Cherokee Empire (Cherokee Run - Top Marks by Marquetry) really caught my eye. The loading was fairly smooth, just a little reluctance from Golden Ghost. Cherokee Empire broke best, but Golden Ghost took the early lead. Kratisto got a decent break, and sat 4th or 5th early. Also among the front pack were Three Day Rush and favorite Winslow Homer. In the stretch, Cherokee Empire took the lead. But, there was a big rush at the finish. Coming 5-wide was Kratisto, who was moving best of all to get his head in front for the win. Golden Ghost tired after his early activity, finishing 8th. Kratisto becomes the first winner for his sire at the same track and distance where Afleet Alex scored his maiden win. By the way, Kratisto is Greek for strongest, hence the blog title. Watch the Replay. Read more about Kratisto here.

Ben's Boots Asks No Quarter

Distinguished Gal (Pollard's Vision - First Class Donna by Taylor's Special) was a program scratch. Ben's Boots (Louis Quatorze - Miss Boot Scoot by Fred Astaire) was favored. Dirty Sweet (Domestic Dispute - Toasty by Polish Numbers) was skittish in the paddock, rearing several times. Sovereign Hope (Strong Hope - Choose a Crown by Ogygian) was on her toes, she protested a little when the rider got up. No Quarter Asked (Afleet Alex - Arpeggio by Dixie Brass) looked calm. Once on the track, Dirty Sweet unseated her rider and took off running. It took awhile to catch her. She was a late scratch, but still looked full of energy as they guided her off the track. May be one to watch next time, if she makes it to the gate. Finally, the remaining five were loaded. Sovereign Hope reared just before the gates opened, but broke on top. Afillyation (Gimmeawink - Starinthemeadow by Meadowlake) was right with her, pressing on the inside. Sitting just off of these was Ben's Boots. Ben's Boots moved even with the pacesetters, and then took control late. No Quarter Asked trailed the field throughout, but she did follow the rail and hopefully learned something. Watch the Replay.
