Discreetly Mine (Mineshaft - Pretty Discreet by Private Account) was the big favorite, but a number of these looked good in the warmup. I was especially attracted to Hockley (A. P. Indy - Penny's Fortune by Storm Cat), but our two runners, Dublin (colt; Afleet Alex - Classy Mirage by Storm Bird) and Krypton (colt; Rock Hard Ten - Freedom Reigns by Unbridled's Song) looked good as well. On Vacation (Harlan's Holiday - Royal Trips by Summer Squall) fussed a bit at the gate, but most went in easily. Krypton broke slow, while favorite Discreetly Mine went to the lead. He was not alone, however, as several went with him, including Eightyfiveinafifty (Forest Camp - Lifeinthefastlane by Unbridled's Song). These two separated themselves from the rest, while setting some rather ambitious fractions (:21.74, :44.21). Sitting in a perfect spot in third was Dublin. He came running 3-wide and rolled past the frontrunners. He pulled away to win by better than 3. Closing well was Hockley, who moved into 2nd. The pacesetters held well for third and fourth. Krypton tired to 11 (last). Ed's Big Bet (Thunder Gulch - Ed's Holy Cow by Bet Big) and Run to Grand Ave. (Grand Slam - Madame Ivette (CHI) by Great Regent) were scratched. This was a very nice performance by Dublin. Yes, he may have been aided by the fast fractions, but he did everything in a very professional manner. Dublin is the third winner for Afleet Alex, all have come in the last 5 days. Watch the Replay.

Too Much Lime for Itineris and Alex
Favoritism in this one went to Evening Concerto (Concerto - Almost Aprom Queen by Montbrook), but Why Lime (Limehouse - Gala Goldie's Best by Phone Trick) also got plenty of attention at the windows. Alex a Fortiori (Afleet Alex - Channel Crossing by Deputy Minister) looked a little skittish in the paddock, while Itineris (Afleet Alex - Kafaf by Zilzal) was looking good. In Broad Daylight (Five Star Day - Broad Sound by Broad Brush) warmed up nicely. On the other hand, Royal Danger (Forest Danger - Royal Bean by Royal Academy) looked like trouble and he resisted the gate at loading time. Why Lime broke best and went to the front. Itineris was off slow. Royal Danger was dangerous. He broke in at the start, slamming into Loud Ravens (Dance With Ravens - Loud Storm by Storm Creek). Then, he bore out on the turn taking out In Broad Daylight and Evening Concerto. Royal Danger was pulled up after that. Up front, Why Lime continued to increase his advantage. However, Itineris recovered from his slow start and moved all the way into second. Alex a Fortiori was involved early, had to steady in the stretch and finished 5th. Why Lime is the 6th winner for freshman sire Limehouse. Watch the Replay.

For Royalty Draws No Blank
Favoritism was volleying between Bronx City Girl (Yankee Gentleman - Carsona by Carson City), Yes It's Valid (Yes It's True - Valid Forbes by Valid Appeal), and For Royalty (Not For Love - Taft Lil Queen by Irish Open), with Bronx City Girl getting the nod when the gates opened. For Royalty won the award for best looking, but Yes It's Valid and Draw a Blank (Saint Liam - Forget About It (IRE) by Be My Guest) also made positive impressions. I Just Did It (Luftikus - Lets Just Do It by Roy) was a late scratch. Bronx City Girl (Yankee Gentleman - Carsona by Carson City) broke on top, but was soon joined by For Royalty. Draw a Blank was sitting in third, and I was hoping she could sweep by the pace for the win. But, the speed did not come back in this one, as the top pair kept putting more and more distance between them and the rest. For Royalty finally pulled free of Bronx City Girl for the victory. Draw a Blank lost third late to Di Colas Ex (Gunnerside - Pinch by Regal Search). Letter of the Law (Stormy Atlantic - Feather Boa by Saint Ballado) was a program scratch from the race. She ran in, and won, the Turf Starlet Stakes at Penn National instead. Watch the Replay.

Hawk Three O Eight Too Much for Delaney's d'Lite
Most of the money in this one was on Hawk Three O Eight (Chief Seattle - Hurricane Hannah by Southern Halo), who went off at less than even money. Maumelle (Van Nistelrooy - Classical Code by Lost Code) is a nice looker, but he was acting up in the paddock, including bucking when the rider went to mount. Delaney's d'Lite (Afleet Alex - Dame d'Loc by Mt. Livermore) looked good in the warm-up, but he was fractious once loaded. He reared and was backed out. He was checked out and declared fine to run, but apparently he kicked John Honeyman (Gators N Bears - Canadian Halo by Halo), and that one was scratched. At the break, Hawk Three O Eight went right to the lead and never looked back. He increased his lead throughout and won by better than 6. Delaney's d'Lite seemed to break ok, but immediately dropped back to trail. He did pick up a few places late to finish fourth. Watch the Replay.

Mine That Bird (gelding; Birdstone - Mining My Own by Smart Strike) finished 3rd in the West Virginia Derby (gr. II) at Mountaineer. To me, this was reminiscent of his Belmont. I think he moved too early and couldn't sustain it. Watch the Replay. Read more about the West Virginia Derby here.
Warrior's Reward (colt; Medaglia d'Oro - For All You Do by Seeking the Gold) was second in the Jim Dandy to Kensei. Watch the Replay. No excuse for Warrior's Reward this time out, as he broke well. Read more about the Jim Dandy here.
Peace Town (colt; Peace Rules - Darnestown by Williamstown) was off slow in the East Hanover Township Stakes and never recovered, finishing 6th. Watch the Replay.
Scootin Scooter (colt; Saarland - Sarah's a Winner by Cormorant) was in a good spot in the Capital City Stakes, but faded to 8th. Watch the Replay.
Ritzy Jones (colt; Smarty Jones - So Ritzy by Darn That Alarm) was scratched from both the East Hanover Township Stakes and the Capital City Stakes.

Hoopoe (colt; Birdstone - Allou by Seattle Slew) sprinted to a 4 length lead in the stretch, and had just enough left late to break his maiden by 3/4 length in his off the turf Maiden Special Weight at Saratoga. Watch the Replay.
Richmond (colt; Smarty Jones - Big and Beautiful by Capote) went right to the lead in his debut at Monmouth and drew clear late to win by better than 2. Stones Throw (colt; Birdstone - Twinkler by Benny the Dip) was best of the rest in second. Justin (colt; Speightstown - Love At Noon by Afternoon Deelites) also ran a credible race, finishing 4th. Watch the Replay.
Dark Starlet (filly; Speightstown - Flowers and Vine by Blushing John) rallied some late to take third in her Allowance race at Monmouth. Watch the Replay.
Soda Jerk (gelding; Smarty Jones - Double Scoop by Seeking the Gold) battled early in his Maiden Special Weight at Saratoga, but weakened to 4th. Clever Wish (colt; Birdstone - With Every Wish by Lear Fan) broke slowly and checked, finishing 8th. Watch the Replay.
Presents for Berti (gelding; Congaree - Agiftfrom Bertie by Monetary Gift) didn't show much interest in his Allowance/Optional Claiming race that came off the turf, finishing 5th. I think he better stick to the turf. Watch the Replay.
Congo Kaye (filly; Congaree - Palau by Kingmambo) was scratched from her Allowance/Optional Claiming at Santa Rosa.
