News and Notes

In addition to the 2-year old results detailed below, the Kitten's joy filly Humor Me Rene (Kitten's Joy - Star of Humor by Distorted Humor) finished 2nd at Cork in Ireland. She has now run 4 times and finished 2nd once and 3rd once.

Sweet Victory

Sweet Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Sweet Kassidy by Saint Ballado) was favored, but Cuqui's Love (Afleet Alex - Chilukki Cat by Storm Cat) was respected at the window as well, at around 7-2. Madeline G (Proud Accolade - Absolutely Genius by Just a Cat) looked good warming up. Most of the Puerto Rican jockeys warm-up with their feet out of the stirrups, the better to keep control of these wild 2-year olds. One dumped her rider. Naturally, it was Mind Ruler (Roman Ruler - Gentle Mind by Seattle Slew), who had run off in her previous start. She didn't get away this time. The break was clean. Mi Nieta Yaniliz (Kafwain - Shar's Smile by Peaks and Valleys) went to the early lead, but Sweet Kitten kept her position on the rail and began to move up. She hit the lead and seemed home free, but Vuelve Elene R. (Indian Ocean - Land Lady by Zamindar) made a big move at her late. Sweet Kitten showed some grit and pulled away again for a comfortable win. There was an objection, but no change was made. Sweet Kitten is the 6th winner for Kitten's Joy. Cuqui's Love (Afleet Alex - Chilukki Cat by Storm Cat) ran a credible race as well, finishing 4th. Watch the Replay.

Officer McNeal is the Ruler of Sheltowee

Sheltowee (Saint Liam - Crafty Oak by Crafty Prospector) was the morning-line choice, but Officer McNeal (Milwaukee Brew - Exotic Bird by Awesome Again) was favored by the bettors. Sheltowee looked good strolling through the paddock, but he was a little rambunctious in the post parade. It was Da Mule (Grindstone - Dancin Emi by Summer Squall), however, who dumped his rider and ran off. He was a late scratch. Bless This (Cuvee - Counttheblessings by Count the Time) also was getting a bit fresh. Sheltowee hit the gate at the break, and trailed the field. Sahm Like It Hot (Sahm - Hip Huggers by Magloire) set the early pace, but he was pressed by Ruler of the Court (Peace Rules - Nuvem by Dynaformer). These two dueled into the stretch, but then Sahm Like It Hot dropped back. Joining in the fray was Officer McNeal, who had been just behind the leaders. He just got up, to win by a neck over Ruler of the Court. Sheltowee did catch the field and was just a nose behind 3rd place Bless This at the wire. Watch the Replay.

Magic Appeals Over Dynazaper and La Cloche

Magic Appeal (Successful Appeal - Call Her Magic by Caller I. D.), who was 2nd first time out, was the early favorite, but later the bettors gravitated towards $3.1 million yearling Chimayo (A. P. Indy - Chimichurri by Elusive Quality). I thought that Dynazaper (filly; Ghostzapper - Broad Dynamite by Broad Brush) looked ready, although La Cloche (Ghostzapper - Memories of Silver by Silver Hawk) didn't look bad. Nonna Mia (Empire Maker - Holy Bubbette by Holy Bull) was scratched. La Cloche acted up a bit as they were loading. She didn't look too happy being shoved into the gate. Then, Cape Cod Carrie (Purge - Bet by Go for Gin) was acting up. But, she soon settled and they were off. J Z's Revenge (Act of Duty - Star Mountain by Mountain Cat) went to the lead, dueling with Heavenly Landing (Pulpit - Peace River Lady by Woodman). Rose Catherine (Speightstown - Great Plains Lady by Peaks and Valleys) was just behind these. J Z's Revenge dropped back, as Heavenly Landing took the lead. Magic Appeal had been tucked in on the rail, but then she swung out and powered to the lead. Heavenly Landing hung around for second. Closing well late were Sing My Song (Malibu Moon - Listen to My Song by Unbridled's Song) and Dynazaper, who finished 3rd and 4th. Chimayo hesitated at the start and then stumbled, ending up 8th. La Cloche checked at the start and then raced wide, not making an impact, finishing 10th. Watch the Replay.

Najran Copy Strong Over Yala Yala Bull

Nice Change Order (Eavesdropper - Princess Whinny by Theatrical (IRE)) was the big favorite in this one, going off around even money. He looked good in the warm-up. Oye (Black Mambo - She's Royal Too by Deerhound) was also getting attention at the windows, Yala Yala Bull (colt; Saint Liam - Maltese Indy by A. P. Indy) was 30-1. Najran Copy (Najran - Cobblestone Street by Danzig Connection) outbroke the field and assumed the lead. Oye chased throughout, but there was no catching Najran Copy. X Pleasure (Newfoundland - Summer Play by Raise a Native) finished 3rd and favorite Nice Change Order was 4th. Yala Yala Bull beat one home. He broke a little tardily, but better than his debut. King Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Santo Mio by Southern Halo) and Steve's Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Cat's Prize by Golden Missile) are a Kitten's Joy entry in the third at Saratoga, same owners (Ken and Sarah Ramsey), same trainer (Wesley Ward), and same jockey named (Jesus Castanon). We'll see if both run. Both colts are making their second starts, and both finished 2nd in their debuts. King Kitten ran on July 16 at 5 furlongs on the dirt at Belmont. He is out of the winning mare Santo Mio. Santo Mio has produced 5 winners from 5 to run, including Lucky Halo, a group III winner in Panama. Three of King Kitten's siblings won at 2. Steve's Kitten ran 5.5 furlongs on the turf at Ellis Park on July 12. He is the first foal out of the placed mare Cat's Prize. Cat's Prize is a half-sister to one winner. Love Always is a half-sister to 8 winners, including grade III winners Dancing Jon, Fight for Love, and Love That Jazz, and grade II winner Sea of Secrets.

Bridgetown (Speightstown - Ellesmere by Tabasco Cat) was 2nd in his only start, running on the turf at Churchill Downs on June 27. He didn't break well in that race, but was gaining ground at the end. William's Kitten (Kitten's Joy) was 7th in that race, and then broke his maiden next time out. Bridgetown is out of the turf winning mare Ellesmere, who was also a winner at 2. Ellesmere has produced 2 winners from 3 to run, including stakes winner Carnacks Choice, a winner at 2.

El Commodore (El Prado (IRE)) - Fancy Clancy by Rahy) also has turf experience, having finished 7th in his debut on the Belmont Park turf on July 11. In that race, he chased the pace before tiring. He really made an impression on me before that race, let's see if he runs to his looks this time. El Commodore is out of turf winner Fancy Clancy. Fancy Clancy has produced 4 winners, including stakes winner Fancy Fusaichi. Two of her offspring won on the turf.

Pendulum (Songandaprayer - St Lucinda by St. Jovite) ran on the Presque Isle Downs Tapeta in his debut, finishing 2nd on July 2. He sold for $275,000 as a yearling, and is out of the winning mare St Lucinda, who was stakes-placed on the turf. She was also a debut winner at 2 on the turf. Billy's Punch (Saint Liam - Slewzig by Seattle Slew) makes his second start, after finishing 8th first time out at Presque Isle Downs on July 17, while running greenly. This time, he'll try the turf, which is a new surface for all the entrants. Since his debut, he worked once at Fort Erie, going 4 furlongs in :52.20. I find it encouraging that although Billy's Punch has been working at Fort Erie, he is running at Woodbine, which is a higher class track. His placed dam, Slewzig, has produced 8 winners from 9 to run, including stakes winners Sandia Slew, Chantilly Princess, and Angelica Slew. Sandia Slew was a debut winner at 2 and won 2 stakes that year. Saint Liam's 20 runners have made 28 total starts, recording 4 wins, 4 thirds, and $81,059.

Lisa's Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Chianti Red by Woodman) makes her second start, after finishing 3rd on the Belmont Park turf on July 10, despite being steadied in the stretch. Completing the main body of the race are unraced fillies Circleboundbay (Langfuhr - Athruz Breeze by Alphabet Soup) and Crystal Ocean (Stormy Atlantic - Luth de Crystal (FR) by Crystal Glitters). Deputy Max ran a decent race at DMR but was smoked by a very good and more experienced EUROSILVER colt, named Sterling Outlook.  I hope Sterling Outlook goes on to win the futurity because I have his half sister's yearling colt by EUROSILVER.

Tapitsfly came out of Hot Dixie Chick's track record setting race at Churchill on 6/13.  The 4th place finisher in that race was Afleet Maggi (subsequently second at Arlington) - look for her at Saratoga next out.  She happens to be the half-sister to the EUROSILVER colt I note above.  I'm just hoping for the stars to allign before the sale in October.

T3Horses - much luck with your Eurosilver colt. Looks like he's got some good family connections.

T3Horses,

I happened to see both the CD race with Hot Dixie Chick and the Arlington race that you refer to.  After seeing the Cd race where nobody was catching HDC (and still hasnt) I followed the top 4 finishers in the race. Tapitsfly came out of the race and won, and I think Afleet Maggi has a bright future and I think you will have a lot of interest in October if your yearling looks the part at all.

I adore Tapitsfly naturally.  Good luck with your Eurosilver colt T3horses.

Just going to check Eurosilver's pedigree in BH Stallion register as the name rings no bells!  Mind you my memory is swiss cheesed at present.  A Quantum Leapism!   Been watching Quantum Leap a lot.  Have all 5 TV series on DVD.  God bless Dr Sam Beckett and Al, the old reprobate!  Not exactly faithful to women but certainly loyal to Sam! A hilarious TV series!  Possibly my favourite, favourite!

Ok i will go and look up Eurosilver

Wow!  Unbridled Song out of a Nijinsky II mare!  Yep you should have a good one there T3horses!

Thanks for this blogsite.  with my fascination for pedigrees i lerv it!

God Bless

best wishes

Abbie

P.S. Love is an overused word which is becoming meaningless so i use lerv!
