Scottkeith'skitten Gets Zapster

The race stayed on the turf, and only Mint Maker (Unbridled's Song - Shawklit Mint by Air Forbes Won), was scratched from the main body. This meant that Buffalo Runner (Aldebaran - Tropic Depression by Storm Cat) drew in off the AE list, while fellow-AEs Rock America (Rock Hard Ten - Girl Scout by Meadowlake) and Steve's Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Cat's Prize by Golden Missile) stayed on the sideline. Also waiting for another day were MTOs Cutter (Saint Liam - Brite Diamond by Deputy Minister) and Remittance (Unforgettable Maz - Wife's Objection by Slewpy). Zapster (Ghostzapper - Extend by Unbridled's Song) and his entrymate Buffalo Runner grabbed most of the bettors' attention, going off at 8-5. Petecarol (Not For Love - Diva Girl by Saint Ballado) and Novel Notion (Tale of the Cat - Mini Chat by Deputy Minister) also got a little love at the windows, while Scottkeith'skitten (Kitten's Joy - Miss Bergdorf by Old Trieste) was a cool 12-1. However, he looked best to me in the paddock, and out on the track. Straight Talk (Macho Uno - No Foul Play by Great Gladiator) was given a rousing warmup. Zapster broke on top, but Petecarol took the early lead. Scottkeith'skitten sat off of these in 3rd. Charter Flight (Maria's Mon - Prop by Unbridled's Song) was alongside him. Zapster and Petecarol continued to duel into the stretch, when Zapster pulled free and Petecarol began to drop back. Would this be the first winner for Ghostzapper? Not this time, Scottkeith'skitten came running, and wore down Zapster for a 1/2 length victory. Buffalo Runner and Straight Talk closed for 3rd and 4th. Scottkeith'skitten is the 8th winner for Kitten's Joy. By the way, the time of the race was 1:43.42, bettering Dean's Kitten's time of 1:43.95 from yesterday. Watch the Replay.

Bert Comes by Hazards of Love and Holiday Buzz

Key Largo (Fusaichi Pegasus - Mary by Cat Thief) was the only scratch. Herecomesbert (Purge - Star Quality (ARG) by Southern Halo) was favored, but not by much over Hazards of Love (Saint Liam - Spring Rush by Wild Rush). Holiday Buzz (Afleet Alex - Dixie Holiday by Dixieland Band) was 10-1. I liked the look of Workhard Playhard (Eurosilver - Sybarite by Holy Bull), but thought he might need a race. Hazards of Love went to the lead out of the gate. He was soon joined by Workhard Playhard. That one put his head in front, but Hazards of Love fought back and regained the lead. However, he couldn't hold off favorite Herecomesbert, who came rolling from off the pace to take the win by 3. Hazards of Love did keep 2nd over Dual Forecast (Woke Up Dreamin - Sniffy by Repriced). Holiday Buzz got going late to pick up the fourth spot. Herecomesbert is the third winner for his sire Purge, as freshmen sires accounted for the first 5 spots in this race. Watch the Replay.

Jung Man Scott Too Much for the Big Cat

The only scratches in this one were the AEs, as everyone in the main body of the race stayed in. Jung Man Scott (Freud - Plinking by Talkin Man), third in his debut, was the big favorite, going off at less than even money. He looked good on the track, although it was Mine Over Matter (Mineshaft - Hansel's Girl by Hansel), who kept catching my eye. It's the Big Cat (Kitten's Joy - Sweeping Cat by End Sweep) wasn't getting much air time. Thundering Roar (Roaring Fever - Fabulous Gin by Go for Gin) was a problem child. One wonders what he was like before he was gelded. All Zipped Up (City Zip - Flippant by Thunder Puddles) was also bucking a bit. The gate crew really earned their pay loading this group, Mine Over Matter balked, Juicy Jacklyn (Cappuchino - Little Cupcake by Hansel) resisted, Wana Play (Bwana Charlie - Catbird Creek by Storm Creek) was backed out. After all that, the race was rather anticlimatic. Favorite Jung Man Scott went right to the lead. Jerico Rules (Tomorrows Cat - Bingo Lil by Time for a Change) was pressing, while It's the Big Cat was at the back of the leading group. Jung Man Scott pulled away in the stretch, to win by better than 8. Wana Play took second, and Thundering Roar moved into third. It's the Big Cat ended up 6th. Thundering Roar might be one to keep an eye on, considering how much energy he used before the race. He also drifted out in the stretch. Watch the Replay.

just wondering why anyone isn't making more of a big deal that Ghostzapper doesn't have a winner yet when at this time last year they were writing Smarty Jones off the planet.

Frank,  I think you make a very valid point.  However, the buzz on the Ghostzapper horses that have yet to run is still going on.  Most believe that Stronach hasn't unleashed his homebreds yet to wait to the fall and let them mature a little more.  Smarty Jones had poor sales and there was no buzz last year in regard to his offspring that were at the track.  Time will tell but I believe that's why no one including myself has written him off yet.
