News and Notes
In addition to the entries below, stakes winner Long Lashes (Rock Hard Ten - Border Dispute by Boundary) is entered in the Group III Skybet.com Sweet Solera Stakes at Newmarket. She'll face 9 in this 7 furlong contest on the turf. Long Lashes broke her maiden in her debut in the Balanchine Ballygallon Stud Stakes on June 26 at the Curragh.
Victorystart (Jump Start - Golden Victress by Carson City) won a Maiden Special Weight race at Mountaineer to become the 8th winner to emerge from the June 11 maiden race at Churchill Downs that was won by Backtalk. This was the race in which Dublin (Afleet Alex) was 4th. Dublin broke his maiden on August 1.
Curly worked at Arlington Park, going 5 furlongs in 1:01.20.
Gray Flashes to Victory
Golden Honey (Olmodavor - Golden Toast by Hennessy) was favored, and she broke on top. But, Gray Flash (Afleet Alex - Stormy Regina by Storm Cat) didn't let her get too far away. Breaking in the air at the start was Valorous (Value Plus - Tethys by Topsider), who was never involved after that. Up front, Golden Honey and Gray Flash pulled away from the rest. On the turn, Gray Flash moved even with Golden Honey, and then drew off. Burning Flirt (Burning Roma - Short Skirt Flirt by Pentelicus) and Ivory Tickle (Crown Delite - Emerging Cloud by Smoke Glacken) came running late to take 2nd and 3rd, but Gray Flash had enough left for the win. I guess the 8th time was the charm for Gray Flash, who wins in her 8th start to become Afleet Alex's 4th winner. Watch the Replay.

Mi Sueno Overwhelms Octogarian
Go Ask Alex (Afleet Alex - Dominique's Joy by Strawberry Road (AUS)) was scratched from the Sorrento Stakes. She'll run against fellow-maidens on Sunday, August 9 at Del Mar instead. Hollywood Juvenile Championship Stakes winner Necessary Evil (Harlan's Holiday - Song and Danz by Unbridled's Song) was the big favorite, going off at less than even money. Octogarian (Rock Hard Ten - Coronda Rose by Coronado's Quest) looked good. Well Deserved (Cactus Ridge - Lodden Blue by Coronado's Quest) was a little keyed-up. Laura's Pleasure (Cactus Ridge - Doubleyourpleasure by Double Negative) broke best, but Well Deserved took the early advantage. Laura's Pleasure assumed the pressing role. Octogarian was just off of these. Necessary Evil had trouble at the start and was well behind the leaders. Octogarian seemed poised to make a move on the turn, but instead she weakened and ended up sixth. Laura's Pleasure also weakened. Rolling on the outside was Mi Sueno (Pulpit - Madcap Escapade by Hennessy), who hit the lead and kept on going. She broke her maiden in style, winning the Sorrento by more than 6 lengths. Necesary Evil recovered to finish 2nd, but she was no threat to the top filly. Well Deserved held well for third. Watch the Replay.
