More from Long Lashes

  • Comments

Long Lashes (Rock Hard Ten - Border Dispute by Boundary) sat off the early pace and then wore down the leaders to win the 7 furlong Group III Sweet Solera Stakes at Newmarket. It was her first start for Godolphin, and her second start overall. In her first start, she won the Balanchine Ballygallon Stud Stakes at the Curragh on June 26.  Read more about her win here.

Graemy is Recession Proof

Favoritism bounced around in this one. First, it was Smooth Talking (Dixie Union - Gin Talking by Allen's Prospect). But, at post time, Frozen Cocktail (Purge - Frozen Rope by Clever Trick) was favored. Also getting plenty of action was Citi Dispute (Domestic Dispute - Basha's Charm by Citidancer). Recession Proof (Afleet Alex - Pert Lady by Cox's Ridge) was 17-1. Frozen Cocktail made a favorable impression, while Ada Belle (Oratory - Zill Bear's Secret by Secret Firm) seemed a little reluctant. As post time approached, Smooth Talking was looking a little impatient, and she was restless after being loaded, and had to be backed out. After an equipment adjustment for Smooth Talking, everyone was ready and the start was pretty even. Ada Belle broke on top, with Graemy (Graeme Hall - Catchy Patton by Patton) pressing. Smooth Talking was also involved early. Stalking these was Citi Dispute, while Recession Proof settled off the pace. In the stretch, Graemy took control. She continued to increase her lead, despite lugging in, winning by better than 8. Frozen Cocktail moved into second, while Recession Proof got going late to just get third. Another decent effort for Recession Proof, who doesn't seem to get going until the winner has already passed the wire. Hopefully, she'll get more distance soon. Watch the Replay.

Oak Motte gets Baby Afleet

Leroidugazon (Leroidesanimaux (BRZ) - Captive Miss by Acaroid) was scratched. Oak Motte (Valid Expectations - Raven's Bride by Cherokee Colony), one of the experienced entrants, was favored. Baby Afleet (Afleet Alex - Dancen in the Sun by Regal Classic) was adding blinkers for this start, and went off at better than 20-1. He looked good in the prelims, but not as good as This Is My House (Limehouse - Tango Red by High Brite), by first-crop sire Limehouse. Fantastic Deal (Vindication - Chateaubaby by Nureyev) was acting up a little in the paddock and when they loaded, but nothing major. Baby Afleet broke ok, but This Is My House broke best of all and went to the lead. Also up close were Oak Motte and The A. T. M. (Trippi - Regal Debutante by Vice Regent). Oak Motte dropped back slightly to let the other two battle it out. He then came running late to get the victory over a green, but game, This Is My House, with The A. T. M. just behind in third. Baby Afleet made up some ground late to finish 6th. Watch the Replay.

Lady Eddington Goes Skippin' Home

Officer Mission (Officer - Fantasy Quest by Coronado's Quest) was scratched. First-timer Fabulous Fifty (Fabulous Champ - Marcy Jo Ann by Circulating) made a good impression. Queenofthepulpit (Holy Bull - Stargaze by Pulpit) was a little rambunctious. Favoritism jumped around a little, but finally settled on Lady Eddington (Eddington - Miss Blues Sweep by End Sweep). Skippin' Home (Afleet Alex - Second Symphony by Mining) got some attention at 5-1. As they loaded, Fabulous Fifty acted up, and then Green Destiny (Monashee Mountain - Green Boulevard by Green Forest). Skippin' Home stayed out of the chaos, and loaded like a pro. Lady Eddington broke on top, but Let's Rocket (Golden Missile - Caribbean Sol by Woodman) slipped to the lead. Those two dueled dueled for a time, but then Lady Eddington took control and drew off by better than 4. Green Destiny slipped through to take second. Skippin' Home ran evenly, in fourth the whole race. Lady Eddington is the 6th winner for freshman sire Eddington.
