Shimmering Moment (filly; Afleet Alex - Vassar by Royal Academy) finished 3rd in a 6 furlong contest at Lingfield in Great Britain. It was her first start. Thanks to K. Proud Zoe is Fleet Over Maggi and Zori's Eye
Happy Week (Distorted Humor - Lassie's Legacy by Deputy Minister), part of an entry with Proud Zoe (Proud Accolade - Sophia Sez So by Wild Event), was a scratch, as well as Marabelle (Dixie Union - Miss Hot Salsa by Houston). Well-bred first-timer Protesting (A. P. Indy - On Parade by Storm Cat) was the early favorite, but the experienced Proud Zoe was the choice at post time. C. C. Coco (Tiznow - Itsmylife by Storm Cat) was looking a little antsy in the paddock. She's the filly who dumped her rider first time out. Afleet Maggi (Afleet Alex - Mindset by Coronado's Quest) and Zori's Eye (Rock Hard Ten - Congratulations by Mercedes Won) both looked serious as they moved on to the track. Gold Birdie (Touch Gold - Bird Harbor by Boston Harbor) was on her toes, and began to get impatient with the wait. Quiet Temper (Quiet American - Dead Aim by Silver Deputy) made a favorable impression, but did look like she might need more distance. Afleet Maggi broke on top, while Protesting was off slowly. Proud Zoe was pressing Afleet Maggi, while Zori's Eye wasn't far back. Afleet Maggi made things a little interesting by jumping a puddle at the 3/8 pole (it's somewhat hard to catch on the replay, it occurs around the 40 second mark). This allowed Proud Zoe to move even with Afleet Maggi. These two dueled for awhile, but Proud Zoe pulled away to win by 6. Zori's Eye steadied and began to drop back on the turn, as Quiet Temper began to move. Quiet Temper overtook Afleet Maggi late for the place spot. Protesting did some running late to finish 4th, while Zori's Eye ended up 6th. Watch the Replay.
