Smart Seattle Raises the Kitty

Crimson Glory (Ghostzapper - Buy the Sport by Devil's Bag) was scratched, as was Neenie's House (Limehouse - Tellum Texan by Eastern Echo), and MTO entrant Capitalism At Risk (Bull Market - Stock Price by Relaunch). First-time starter Hatheer (Storm Cat - Golden Apples (IRE) by Pivotal (GB)), daughter of champion Golden Apples, was favored. But, Raise the Kitty (Kitten's Joy - Elevate by Cox's Ridge), who was part of an entry with Lyrical Note (Unbridled's Song - Thiscatsforcaryl by Storm Cat), also received a lot of attention. Ready to Party (More Than Ready - Miss Cap by Capote) and Lyrical Note were a little on edge before the race. The load was pretty smooth, although Hatheer required a little prodding. She broke on top, but Raise the Kitty went with her. Those two dueled into the stretch, putting up some ambitious fractions (21:63, :44.66, :56.43). That speed took its toll, as Smart Seattle (Smart Strike - Seattle Bay by Opening Verse) came flying late to overtake the pacesetters. Hatheer pulled free from Raise the Kitty to take second, while Raise the Kitty held off Miss Matzo (Royal Academy - Ballet Partner (GB) by First Trump (GB)) to secure third. The final time was 1:02.43, which compares favorably with the track record of 1:00.66. Watch the Replay.

Cat Bells Rings Over She's a Fleet

Inventory (Consolidator - Identify by Halo) was scratched, while Cat Bells (City Zip - Annihilator by Vying Victor) was the big favorite. She's a Fleet (Afleet Alex - Society Gal by Linkage) wasn't getting any love at 21-1. Mardi Gras Indy (Pulpit - Saphiria by Touch Gold) was strutting her stuff in the paddock, and continued to make a good impression on the track. Stormin Bon (Stormin Fever - Irridescent by Seeking the Gold) looked ready to go. The load was pretty quick. Running Shoes (Wildcat Shoes - Everleaner by Sawbones) came out running, with Stormin Bon close behind. Not far off of these was favorite Cat Bells. She's a Fleet secured a spot on the rail. Stormin Bon gave way in the stretch, as Running Shoes built up a 4 length lead. But, the troups were coming. Cat Bells was going best, and charged by to win on the outside. Also making good moves were St. Rose (Lion Heart - Rose Tiara by St. Jovite) on the inside, and Mardi Gras Indy. She's a Fleet didn't have much punch and finished 7th. By the way, Mardi Gras Indy was claimed by Maggi Moss. I would not be surprised to see her in Maiden Special Weight company next time around. Watch the Replay.
