News and Notes

Long Lashes (filly; Rock Hard Ten - Border Dispute by Boundary) finished 4th in the 7 furlong Moyglare Stud Stakes (IRE-I) at the Curragh. She may not have cared for the ground, which was rated "heavy".

No Catching Maggi

As predicted, this one came off of the turf and was run on the main track, which was upgraded to "good" just before the race. Flyinglouy (Mr. Greeley - Blue Warbler by More Than Ready), High Style (Giant's Causeway - Tout Charmant by Slewvescent), Key Quality (Elusive Quality - Forest Key by Green Forest), and Whydah (More Than Ready - Riverboat Miss by Storm Cat) were scratched. On the other hand, MTO Thatsallshewrote (Yes It's True - Best Friend by Dr. Caton) drew in. Afleet Maggi (Afleet Alex - Mindset by Coronado's Quest) was favored, hovering around even money. Thatsallshewrote looked good, but so did Afleet Maggi. Far Isle (Indian Charlie - Meine Cosmos (IRE) by Caerleon) was acting up a bit, as they moved onto the track for the post parade. Afleet Maggi was a little wet, but since they were only going 5.5 furlongs, it wasn't really a concern. Afleet Maggie went right to the lead at the break. Thatsallshewrote and Far Isle were the nearest pursuers, but Afleet Maggi was going pretty easily. In the stretch, she began to open up without much effort. She ended up winning by an easy four lengths, a very nice effort. Afleet Maggi is the 6th winner for Afleet Alex. Watch the Replay.

Softly Singing Serenades Harissa

Miss Peanut (Freespool - Mattaboutyou by Matty G) was scratched from this one. Softly Singing (Holy Bull - Victory Roll by Deerhound) was a huge favorite, going off at 1-5. Harissa (Afleet Alex - Dynasty by Time for a Change) took a decent amount of money, going off at 6-1. She looked good in the preliminaries. Softly Singing, who is a pretty steel gray, was kicking in the walking ring and displayed a little bit of stubborness at the load. Made to Order (Rahy - Makeup Artist by Dynaformer) was off slowly, Harissa broke outward, and wasn't too far in front of Made to Order. Linda Surprise (Yes It's True - Squall Linda by Summer Squall) went to the lead, pressed by Neeko (Swiss Yodeler - Princess O'Hara by Petionville). Patiently watching this duel was Softly Singing. She moved to the outside and rolled on by them, pulling away to a better than 4 length victory. Meanwhile, Harissa made up good ground to just miss second to Neeko, who held well after dueling early. So, an impressive win for Softly Singing, but a nice debut for Harissa as well. Watch the Replay.

Completing the AE list is Abilio (Pioneering - Minni Sangue by Slew Sangue), who is the first foal out of the turf winning mare Minni Sangue. Minni Sangue is a half- or full-sister to 9 winners.
