A Purrrfect Victory

Big Boy Billy (Cactus Ridge - Brenna Belle by Arch) was scratched, allowing AE Hakamiah (Came Home - Episode by Kris S.) to draw into the race. Worldly (A. P. Indy - Urbane by Citidancer) was favored, and looked good in the paddock. Mister Thayer (Victory Gallop - Wavering Rhythm by Flying Pidgeon) was acting up as the rider tried to get up. Apart (Flatter - Detach by Unbridled) made a favorable impression in the warm-up. Both of our horses, Looks Purrrfect (Kitten's Joy - On Broadway by Rubiano) and Holiday Buzz (Afleet Alex - Dixie Holiday by Dixieland Band) looked ready to go, although they weren't getting a lot of attention at the windows, with Looks Purrrfect at 7-1 and Holiday Buzz 20-1. Hakamiah was given a strong gallop before the race. Wordly looked a little wet as they loaded. There was a bit of a scramble at the break, Hakamiah, Ubriaco (Menifee - Caper by Grand Slam), and Mister Thayer were all involved. Looks Purrrfect was at the back of the leading pack, while Holiday Buzz was with the trailers. Master Sergeant (Thunder Gulch - Vivid Sunset by Mt. Livermore) made a move to take the lead, but Looks Purrrfect was coming. With his gray coat, you could see easily see him making his move, going wide, to sweep by the leaders for the win. And, who was that coming up the inside? It was Holiday Buzz, who made up a ton of ground to complete the Maiden Watch exacta. Looks Purrrfect's win was especially satisfying because I thought his debut was most promising, but his last out on the turf was rather uninspiring. Apparently, a return to the Polytrack was all he needed. Looks Purrfect is the 10th winner for Kitten's Joy. Watch the Replay.

Mambo Fever Dances Past Dynazaper

I didn't see this one live, so no notes about the prelims. Ailalea (Pulpit - Wood Sprite by Woodman) was favored, but Dynazaper (Ghostzapper - Broad Dynamite by Broad Brush) took some attention at 4-1. Hidden Value (Value Plus - Raw Gold by Rahy) went to the lead, but Dynazaper went right with her. In the stretch, Dynazaper hit the front, but there were a bunch of fillies coming. Mambo Fever (Stormin Fever - Mambo Bell by Kingmambo), Quiet Temper (Quiet American - Dead Aim by Silver Deputy), Protesting (A. P. Indy - On Parade by Storm Cat), and Ailalea all made runs. But it was Mambo Fever who prevailed by a neck over Quiet Temper. Dynazaper finished 5th, but she was just two necks, a nose, and a head from the win. Watch the Replay.

Nurse Donna Cures Lu Lu Mess

As predicted, this one came off the turf and was run on the sloppy main track. Air Guard (Maria's Mon - Missile Defense by Unbridled) and Crazycowboydream (Yes It's True - Fresh Aire by Time for a Change) were scratched. Lu Lu Mess (Saint Liam - Battenkill by Rahy) was the early favorite, although La Bien Rose (Smoke Glacken - Just Say So by Green Dancer) was favored when the gates opened. Lu Lu Mess looked good in her stall in the paddock. Prima Signora (Gimmeawink - Sunshine Dawn by Prospectors Gamble) seemed to like the mud. Diva Moon (Malibu Moon - Mrs. West by Gone West) was a little reluctant to load, but they got her in without much fuss. Neighborhood House (Songandaprayer - Cappucino Queen by Java Gold) went for the early lead, and was soon lengths clear. Nurse Donna (Vindication - Swingtime Music by Woodman) was tracking in second. Lu Lu Mess was at the back. Neighborhood House bore out on the turn and forced Nurse Donna wide. But, that was of little concern to Nurse Donna, who took the ead and sprinted clear, winning by 6. She certainly loved the wet stuff. Lu Lu Mess raced wide throughout and finished last. Throw this one out, she obviously didn't care for the slop.

Way to go, Dublin!  I haven't cheered so hard for a race since Afleet Alex ran.  Good to see Dublin following in his daddy's footsteps.

What a great weekend of horse racing. Bravo Rachel Alexandra - the horse of decade. Well done to Dublin - he has a very bright future.
