News and Notes

Draw a Blank (filly; Saint Liam - Forget About It (IRE) by Be My Guest) finished 2nd in a 5.5 furlong Allowance race at Presque Isle Downs on September 9. She sat behind the early speed, and then came up the rail to the lead, but couldn't hold off closer Singandprayfurrhen. Watch the Replay. Draw a Blank broke her maiden in her second start, at Presque Isle Downs on July 1, and then finished 4th in the Mountaineer Juvenile Fillies Stakes on August 1, and 4th in an Allowance race at River Downs on August 16.

Cutter (colt; Saint Liam - Brite Diamond by Deputy Minister) did not draw into his race at Delaware Park on Tuesday, September 8, which stayed on the turf. First Nite Overtakes William Paley

Baileys Beach (Out of Place - Mexicali Rose by El Gran Senor) and Stefani's Surprise (Stephen Got Even - Happy Numbers by Polish Numbers) were scratched. Cherokee Empire (Cherokee Run - Top Marks by Marquetry) was favored, going off at less than even money, but William Paley (Afleet Alex - My Sweet Country by Bold Ruckus) was getting some respect too at 3-1. Both of these looked good in the paddock. Champ Tony (Limehouse - Toe in the Water by Bertrando) had a little bounce in his step. Wild Flirt (Forest Wildcat - Open Flirt by A. P. Indy) broke best, and cleared the field from his outside post to take the lead. William Paley was chasing in second, and on the turn he rolled on by. William Paley opened up a clear lead, but began to shorten his stride. Favorite Cherokee Empire was looming, and Wild Flirt was still hanging around, but it was First Nite (Black Tie Affair (IRE) - Mittens by Storm Boot) who flew by everybody and drew off to win by better than 5. William Paley lost 2nd late, finishing a neck and a nose behind in fourth. Watch the Replay.
