The Winning Breeze

Eclipticals Whisky (Ecliptical - Viski by Peteski) was scratched. Harpoon Hattie (Tiznow - Hardy Har Har by Storm Cat) was favored. Both Zori's Eye (Rock Hard Ten - Congratulations by Mercedes Won) and Quick Breeze (Ghostzapper - Quick Temper by A. P. Indy) were respected at the windows, with post time odds of 7-2 and 5-1. No one really caught my eye in the warm-up, although Rime Ice (Value Plus - Lady Sky Racer by Skywalker) is a pretty thing. The load was quick and easy. Rim Ice broke on top, but Count the Change (Exchange Rate - Countess Kelly by Kipper Kelly) assumed command early, spurting to a clear lead. Zori's Eye secured a good spot, while Quick Breeze was at the back. The field caught up with Count the Change in the stretch. It looked as though favorite Harpoon Hattie might take it, but Quick Breeze was rallying from the back of the pack. She went by on the outside, and drew off for an easy victory. Silken Mist (Include - Sudden Mist by All of a Sudden), who stumbled at the start, come on late for second, while Harpoon Hattie was third. Zori's Eye made a move in the turn, but faded after her rider lost the whip. Rime Ice had an adventurous trip, hitting the rail in the stretch and then fading to last. Quick Breeze is the 3rd winner for Ghostzapper, and his first filly winner. Watch the Replay.

Thomas Gets a Doubles Partner

The rains came to New York, and this one came off the turf and was run on the sloppy main track. Afleet Alan (Afleet Alex - Madrone by Doneraile Court) and a host of others were scratched. It's easier to say who was left: Doubles Partner (Rock Hard Ten - Serena's Sister by Rahy) and entrymate Drover (Storm Cat - Goulash by Mari's Book), El Tune (El Corredor - Our Tune by Concorde's Tune), College Grad (Langfuhr - Greeley's Starre by Mr. Greeley), MTO Thomas Got Even (Stephen Got Even - Tomisue's Pleasure by Seeking the Gold), and surprisingly Satum (Tumblebrutus - Sacramentada (CHI) by Northair) who had scratched out of off-the-turf races previously. The entry of Doubles Partner and Drover went off at less than even money. Satum looked good in the paddock, but didn't seem to appreciate the rain pelting him. He was also a little reluctant to load. College Grad took the early lead, with Doubles Partner pressing. El Tune and Satum started slowly. Doubles Partner moved past College Grad on the outside, while Drover moved through on the inside. The two entry mates dueled for awhile, but they were both overtaken by Thomas Got Even, who flew by everyone to win by better than 9. Drover outfinished Doubles Partner for second. Watch the Replay.

Comedero Overpowers Lujack

No scratches in this one. Lujack (Rock Hard Ten - To the Rainbow (FR) by Rainbow Quest) was favored, and looked good in the paddock. Go Tiger Jack (Victory Gallop - Hussy by Unaccounted For) made a favorable impression as well, and Range Man (Powerscourt - Bees 'n' Money by Personal Flag) warmed up nicely. Comedero (Posse - Pawnee Patti by Sir Richard Lewis) broke quickest, but Blazing Gibson (Gibson County - Major Quinn by Allen's Prospect) secured the early lead. This lead was not long lasting, as Blazing Gibson relinquished it to Comedero and Go Tiger Jack, who dueled for awhile. Comedero left Go Tiger Jack behind, however, and began drawing farther and farther away. The final margin was better than 12. Lujack steadied early on, and then found himself near the back, finishing 9th. Watch the Replay.
