A Sweet Stakes Win

Robbery Cat (Cat Thief - Swing City by Carson City), a perfect 5 for 5 coming into the race was the overwhelming favorite. But, apart from 99-1 shot Brightest Day (Colony Light - Music Exchange by Prospector's Music), everyone else was fairly even on the board, around the 4 or 5 to 1 mark. Home Serena (Came Home - Vevina by Rahy) looked good in the walking ring. Robbery Cat was a little agitated. Sweet Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Sweet Kassidy by Saint Ballado) is the spitting image of her sire, as many of the Kitten's Joys are. Cuqui's Love (Afleet Alex - Chilukki Cat by Storm Cat) was receiving attention from the pre-race analysis (My Spanish is non-existent, I just listen for names). As they loaded, Robbery Cat broke the gate open, but was prevented from going through. Sweet Kitten broke well, but Robbery Cat went to the lead. Sweet Kitten went right with her. Then, Pool Bash came up the rail to join the top pair. These three battled, separating themselves from the rest of the field. On the turn, Sweet Kitten moved by Robbery Cat on the outside, while Pool Bash moved on the inside. Sweet Kitten swept to the lead, and kept on rolling. It was a dominating performance, as she became the first stakes winner for Kitten's Joy. Pool Bash took second, and Home Serena came on late for third over Robbery Cat. Cuqui's Love finished 5th. Certain Pride Rocks Baby

The track was sloppy, but no scratches. Bettors had trouble deciding. At one point, Rock Hard Baby (Rock Hard Ten - Bully's Del Mar by Notebook) was 5-2, but he went off at 5-1. Certain Pride (Offlee Wild - Tioga by Hadif) ended up favored at post time, at a generous 4-1. Traci's Thunder (Thunder Gulch - Traci's Wild by Langfuhr) caught my eye in the paddock, and Rock Hard Baby was feeling good. But, Queen Maria (Maria's Mon - Miss Magnolia by Forestry) won the "best looking in the post parade" award. Rock Hard Baby was on top early, but Jansy (Silver Deputy - Bella Signora by Giant's Causeway) and Certain Pride were up there too. These three fought it out into the stretch. Rock Hard Baby tired some late, finishing 4th. Certain Pride and Jansy dueled to the wire, with Certain Pride taking the win by a head. Certain Pride is the 10th winner for Offlee Wild.
