Shrimp Dancer: The Surf Takes the Turf

No scratches in the main body of the race, so Luminesce (Mr. Light (ARG) - Dazzling Diva by Wild Rush) did not get in off the AE list. Shrimp Dancer (Kitten's Joy - Formal Dancer by Formal Gold), part of an entry with N B Ravens (Dance With Ravens - I Met Somebody by Compliance), was favored. Supreme Serene (More Than Ready - Serene Ditty by Unbridled's Song) made a good appearance, and Shrimp Dancer looked ready. Saver Dude (City Zip - Holdyoursuspicions by Hold Your Peace) needed a little persuading to go into the gate. Bishop of Nola (Devil His Due - Via Mizner by Forty Niner) broke on top, but Capridge (Cactus Ridge - Cap Beino by Lyphard) took the early lead. He was joined by N B Ravens. Shrimp Dancer was in a good spot just off of these. N B Ravens took a brief lead, but competition was coming. Supreme Serene made a move on the inside, Bishop of Nola reasserted himself, and Eire's Run (Performing Magic - Tiz Paula by Tiznow) got involved. But moving best was Shrimp Dancer, who drew clear for the victory. It wasn't a huge margin of victory, 1 1/4 lengths, but it was a very professional win. Shrimp Dancer is the 11th winner for Kitten's Joy. By my reckoning, 6 of them have been on the turf. Shotgun Bandit (Eurosilver - Shot Gun Frances by Commemorate), who finished 9th at 57-1, really caught my eye on the gallop out. Personally, I'll have to throw a few dollars his way next time out. A Cheap Thrill for Playful Pussycat

Mobil's Holly (Mobil - Ascot in the Gate by Ascot Knight) was scratched, which allowed AE Bella Italia (Sambuca On Ice - Demis Chief by Chief's Crown) to draw in. The other AEs, Molinaro Secreto (Tempolake - Secret Rush by Marquetry) and You Are Current (Alex's Pal - She's Unreal by Unreal Zeal) stayed on the sidelines. Suffragette (Full Mandate - Sharpbill (GB) by Eagle Eyed) took the early money, but Honey'n Roses (Proud and True - Sneak a Peek by Halo's Image) was the tepid 3-1 favorite at post time. Playful Pussycat (Kitten's Joy - Feisty Ferdinand by Ferdinand) was 7-1 as they broke. Myah's Flight (Victory Gallop - Brook's Approval by Montbrook) objected to her blinkers, and Rusted Through (Wando - Rare Emy by Rare Brick) was rambunctious in the paddock. Archess (Trajectory - Spectral Arc by Dr. Carter) caught my eye, and Playful Pussycat looked good warming up. Honey'n Roses leapt out of the gate and took the early lead. Rusted Through was pressing. Playful Pussycat was among the early leaders, but she was taken back. She ended up finishing last, although she was was in touch with the rest of the field. Not sure what happened. Up front, Honey'n Roses began to tire in the stretch, and Rusted Through took the lead. But, she could not hold off the closing kick of Cheap Thrill (Champali - Miss Le Berthon by El Gran Senor), who came rolling 4 wide for the victory. It was a Husbands exacta, with Patrick riding Cheap Thrill and Simon on Rusted Through, paying a nice $596.20.
