Pete Rules the Cat

The race was taken off the turf, and run on the sloppy main track. Poco Tigre (El Leopardo - Lady Mascara by Big Boy Franco) was the only scratch. Dubai Heat (E Dubai - Beach Heat by Dixieland Heat) was favored. Struggles (Struggler (GB) - Millie Thane by Disperal) looked good, while B G Gift Exchange (Exchange Rate - Many Charms by St. Jovite) was fidgeting. Cat Ruler (Kitten's Joy - Grindstone Lassie by Grindstone) looked ready. They were out on the track for awhile, when a jockey change was announced for Cat Ruler. First, they announced Alfredo Contreras, then Wilfredo Arroyo. Looking at the chart, I can see why Alfredo Contreras couldn't ride, he was on B G Gift Exchange. Finally, they were off. Charlies Prince (Seeking a Home - Trap Seattle by Trapp Mountain) went to the lead, with Bon Ami Pete (Lydgate - Holly D by Hey Rob) not far off. Cat Ruler was near the back, only favorite Dubai Heat was behind him. Charlies Prince began to retreat. Almost Legendary (Gold Legend - Most Studious by Triple Sec) made a move on the rail, but Bon Ami Pete pulled away and won with ease. Struggles, who was always near the front, finished 3rd. Cat Ruler made up some ground late to finish 4th. Bon Ami Pete is the first winner for his sire, Lydgate, who is a grade III winner by Pulpit. Watch the Replay.

Greg R.

It was such a huge reward to see Bon Ami Pete win first out. It was a mating I planned for owner/breeder Shawn Davis. Hard to belive over 3 years goes by from mating to first race (hopefully!) We shipped his mare all the way from Idaho to breed to Lydgate. The Dam Holly D. is no slouch as a broodmare, her colt Handsomechamp was undefeated running around Idaho, Montana and Nevada, won 13 starts I think. Congratulatins Shawn and stallion owner Jay Adcock!
