News and Notes

Long Lashes (filly Rock Hard Ten - Border Dispute by Boundary) finished 8th in the group I Meon Valley Stud Fillies' Mile at Ascot. The winner was Hibaayeb, who was a maiden before her win today. Read more about the race here.

Pugaboo (Afleet Alex - Incircle Miss by Dayjur) was scratched from the 9th race at Delaware Park. The winner was Citrus Kid (Lemon Drop Kid - Orange Ice by Ginistrelli), who led from the start. Watch the Replay.

Buddy's Saint Finishes First, But...

Sensationalist (Trippi - Sensational Saint by Moon Prospector) was scratched. Global Force (Giant's Causeway - Debit Account by Mr. Prospector), the $1.2 million yearling, was favored. This was a nice looking bunch, including the 2 Saint Liams: Gaelic Will (Saint Liam - Golf Girl by Kingmambo) and Buddy's Saint (Saint Liam - Tuzia by Blushing John). Mawaaqef (Mr. Greeley - Khazayin by Bahri) was given a strong warm-up. Gaelic Will was a little stubborn at the gate. Buddy's Saint waited patiently for Galic Will to go in, so that he could take his place. Then, Ritual (Pulpit - Furlough by Easy Goer) protested. Global Force and Magic Lion (Lion Heart - Magic Melody by Gulch) broke quickest, but then Gaelic Will moved up the rail to get to the front. He dueled with Magic Lion, as Global Force dropped back. Buddy's Saint rallied on the outside. Global Force went with him. Those two separated themselves from the rest and battled to the end. At the wire, Buddy's Saint was in front by a head. But, there was a steward's inquiry into the stretch drive. It looked pretty mutual to me, but they were looking at it a long time. In the end, Buddy's Saint was disqualified and placed second. Despite the dq, he showed a lot of ability and hopefully won't be a maiden for long. Watch the Replay.

Truth and Justice Runs Away from Maggi

Draw a Blank (Saint Liam - Forget About It (IRE) by Be My Guest) was scratched, as well as Wild Hare (Wild Zone - Rabbit by Clever Trick). Sorority winner Truth and Justice (Yes It's True - Sala de Oro by Expelled) was favored. Afleet Maggi (Afleet Alex - Mindset by Coronado's Quest) was 12-1. Truth and Justice went right to the lead, but a large group swarmed up to join her. When the dust settled, however, Truth and Justice was still in front. She set some pretty quick fractions up there (:21.43, :43.98), but kept on going. Greeley's Rocket (Mr. Greeley - Clay's Rocket by American Chance) rallied into second, but there was no catching Truth and Justice, who took the victory. Afleet Maggi made up some ground late to just miss 3rd by a nose. She certainly didn't show the speed that she had showed in her last start, but that might have been a good thing considering how fast Truth and Justice was going. Watch the Replay.

Lots of Hoopla

Wildcat Gamble (Best of the Rest - Mensa Mom by Forest Wildcat) and Mr Postman (Orchard Park - Fire Queen by Fire Dancer) were scratched. Kijo (Kitten's Joy - Sunday Sport by Honour and Glory) was the big favorite. Nervous Marvin (Closing Argument - Mesmerizing by Touch Gold) was also getting plenty of attention at the windows. Hoopla (Trippi - Hi Avie by Lord Avie) made a good impression, although he had finished behind Kijo in his last start. Kijo moved away from his pony in the post parade, ready for action. Nervous Marvin was briefly on the lead on the break, but a mob went past him, and Kijo took the lead. Hoopla was his nearest pursuer. Hoopla moved to the front, and a resurgent Nervous Marvin joined him. Kijo dropped back. Hoopla pulled away from Nervous Marvin to get the win. Kijo ended up 4th. It was a strange race for Kijo, who seemed rushed early. Watch the Replay.

Imagine Victory Now

The public had trouble picking a favorite in this one. Cactus Cadillac (Cactus Ridge - Plum Country by Country Pine) was the slight choice at 3-1, but Cat Magic (Tale of the Cat - Royal Fair by Deputy Minister), All Star Heart (Arch - Gift of the Heart by Ascot Knight), and Bull Alley (Holy Bull - Klair Alley by Well Decorated) also garnered attention. Native Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Native Belle by Forestry) was a cool 24-1. I liked the look of Bull Alley, and she went to the lead early. All Star Heart, Creasting (Eddington - Offshore News by Boston Harbor), and Miss N. V. (Sky Mesa - Fairy West by Gone West) were all involved as well. Cactus Cadillac and Imagine Now (Tale of the Cat - My Ira by Whitesburg) both moved from off the pace and swept by the early leaders. Imagine Now outfinished Cactus Cadillac to win by a nose. Native Kitten stumbled, and was squeezed at the start. She passed a couple late to finish 9th. Watch the Replay.

The DQ of Buddy's Saint was a joke, esp. for two year olds. Let them bump. They both bumped equally. Looked like they just wanted to give the race to the 1.2 million purchase. Stinks for the bettors.

Buddy's Saint should not have come down; why wasn't there a jockeys objection? Global Force initiated the bumping once to two drifted to the rail BAD CALL .....Do NYRA Stewart's gamble? Or did someone important bet Global force....

That was a questionable disqualification!

I've seen a lot worse situations where the stewards didnt do a thing. They are so annoying up in NY, they are never consistent. They are the worse at their jobs.

Not having bet the race, I concur with most that the decision to DQ "Buddy's Saint" was totally outrageous. You have to wonder, what does it take to be a steward here at NYRA. Some of the most incompetent people I have ever seen plying their trade on the big stage, and it never seems to end! Charlie Hayward,  do something already, and I'm not joking!

I bet Global Force and still disagree with the DQ of Buddy's Saint!
