Daddy Rules the Turf

The Smarty Jones colt Airtight (Smarty Jones - Gammon by Crafty Prospector) took the early money, but Bogue Sound (Crafty Shaw - Carolina Blue by Victory Gallop) was favored at post time. He certainly looked the part. Never Better (During - Liege by Theatrical (IRE)) was bucking in the paddock. Daddy Forty Nine (Ghostzapper - Tuff Chick by Wild Again) looked a little hyped early, but settled down once they went onto the track. Da Mule (Grindstone - Dancin Emi by Summer Squall) was a handful on the track. He was announced as a recent gelding, wonder what he was like before. They broke pretty evenly, but Airtight used his rail spot to move to the lead. Bogue Sound was his nearest pursuer. Daddy Forty Nine secured a good spot on the rail around mid-pack. Bogue Sound moved even with Airtight on the turn, with Grand Row (Grand Reward - Legdrive by Holy Bull) getting involved. Daddy Forty Nine came off the rail at that point and started making progress. He went between Airtight and Bogue Sound, as first-timer Big Boy Billy (Cactus Ridge - Brenna Belle by Arch) came up the rail. Daddy Forty Nine pulled away late for a fairly comfortable win. He's the fourth winner for Ghostzapper, whose had just 15 starters. Watch the Replay.

Dixie Flies by Spirit

Loveyouallthetime (Not For Love - Boldest of All by Bold Executive), the only experienced entrant, was made the favorite. Spirit Flying (Ghostzapper - Adorned by Val de l'Orne (FR)) was second-choice. Grey Whizz (Najran - Pearl E by En Tete) came out on top, with Loveyouallthetime, Dixie Trouper (Dixieland Band - Toula by Bold Executive), and Bear in Control (Stephen Got Even - Controlled by In Excess (IRE)) up close. Spirit Flying had a couple beat. Dixie Trouper and Loveyouallthetime both moved on the turn, and put Grey Whizz behind them. These two dueled to the wire, separated by a bob at the end. Dixie Trouper got his head down at the right time, and is a maiden no more. Spirit Flying came running late to take the third spot over a tiring Grey Whizz. Watch the Replay.
