A Crushing Roman Invasion
The race came off the turf and was run on the fast main track. This led to the scratching of Bourbon Barrel (Purge - Cool Dixie by Dixieland Band) and Raven's Choice (Dance With Ravens - Millashand by Regal Intention). On the other hand, MTO Spangled Star (Distorted Humor - Spangled by Kris S.) got to run. Roman Invasion (Roman Ruler - Princess V. by Memo (CHI)) was favored, but Furious Run (Rock Hard Ten - One Dream Cat by Storm Cat) was given a good chance at 5-2. Roman Invasion went right to the lead. He was getting out a little on the first turn, but was put back on the right track. Thunder Brew (Milwaukee Brew - Cindy Woo Who by Thunder Gulch) was his closest pursuer, while Furious Run was in a good spot on the rail in third. Roman Invasion put up some fairly soft fractions (:23.59, :48.45, 1:13.65), and then pulled free in the stretch. He poured it on late, winning by better than 10 lengths, to become the 17th winner for Roman Ruler. Bach (Medaglia d'Oro - Miss Indy Anna by Apalachee) and Parthian (Giant's Causeway - Inny River by Seattle Slew) ran some late to finish 2nd and 3rd, while Furious Run tired to 4th. Watch the Replay.
