Miss Afleet Alex Gets it Done

Home and Free (Aljabr - Thought Process by West by West) and Rollinginthedough (Stephen Got Even - Aly Capri by Alydar) were scratched. Miss Afleet Alex (Afleet Alex - Go Again Valid by Valid Appeal) took the early money, but Golden Striker (Langfuhr - Golden Charm by Strike the Gold) was favored at post time. Rock Hard Baby (Rock Hard Ten - Bully's Del Mar by Notebook) was 10-1. Miss Afleet Alex looked ready to go. Golden Striker was a little antsy as they moved on to the track, but settled down after a while. Rock Hard Baby was calm, maybe too much so. Roses and Ribbons (Werblin - Roses N Bows by Roar) went to the early lead, but Carson's Brew (Milwaukee Brew - Carson's Baby by Carson City) and Golden Striker were not far off. Rock Hard Baby had a good spot mid-pack on the rail, and Miss Afleet Alex was at the back. Miss Afleet Alex began moving after 6 furlongs. Rock Hard Baby followed for a time, but she couldn't keep up. Up front, Golden Striker moved into the lead. But, Miss Afleet Alex was rolling. She did seem to hesitate slightly as she moved even with Golden Striker, but it was only a momentary pause. Miss Afleet Alex drew off to win by better than 3, becoming the 11th winner for Afleet Alex with this professional score. Rock Hard Baby didn't have much punch down the lane and finished 4th. Indian Burns In This Life

Anchorage (Tapit - Cross Your Heart by Miswaki) was scratched. Remark (Distorted Humor - Krisada by Kris S.) was favored, and looked good on the track. In This Life (Ghostzapper - Spy Novel by Broad Brush) was 5-1. She warmed up nicely. A couple of fillies took issue with the gate. First Souma (Mr. Greeley - Mountain Bonfire by Mt. Livermore) balked, and then Indian Burn (Indian Charlie - Christmas Affair by Black Tie Affair (IRE)) protested. A shove changed her mind. Souma came out running, eager to get away from the evil gate. She soon had company up front from Tia (Giant's Causeway - La Reina by A. P. Indy), Flourish (Distorted Humor - Viviana by Nureyev), and Remark (Distorted Humor - Krisada by Kris S.). Souma gave up first and retreated. The other three continued to battle. But, Indian Burn, who had been sitting just off the pace, came running wide to go by all of them. She won fairly easily. Good thing they got her in the gate. Flourish outfought Remark for second, and Tia took fourth. In This Life was at the back early. She made up some ground in the stretch, but was very green. She was passed late by So Posh (Gone West - So Ritzy by Darn That Alarm), and ended up 6th. No Protesting This Win

Chimayo (A. P. Indy - Chimichurri by Elusive Quality) was favored at 5-2, she also won the best turned out award. Protesting (A. P. Indy - On Parade by Storm Cat) looked good to me. Saint Amore (Saint Liam - Amaretta by Woodman) was almost 10-1. She seemed a little bit on edge. C. S. Royce (Unbridled's Song - Sweeping Story by End Sweep) was a little skittish. Maestro Miss (Bernstein - Changeable by Miswaki) was a little rambunctious at the load, Chimayo went in without her rider. At the break, it didn't look like anyone wanted the lead. Saint Amore took it. She wasn't alone up there, as Chimayo, Maestro Miss, and Cautionary Tale (Yes It's True - Urmia by Meadowlake) were all sticking close. And, not far off was Protesting. Maestro Miss made a bid up the rail and stuck her head in front. Once headed, Saint Amore began retreating. She ended up 9th. Chimayo followed suit, finishing 10th. Up front, it was Protesting coming on the outside. She swept to the lead and just kept on going. She won by 5, but it wasn't really that close. Maestro Miss just got second over C. S. Royce, who closed a lot of ground late. Watch the Replay.
