The Mailet Pounds Home

The race stayed on the turf, so all the MTOs were out. Everyone else stayed in. The public had trouble deciding on a favorite, finally settling on March Mischief (Smart Strike - March Magic by Evansville Slew). But, La Cloche (Ghostzapper - Memories of Silver by Silver Hawk), Deanaallen'skitten (Kitten's Joy - Miss Carmella (IRE) by Carmelite House), and Angel's Cove (More Than Ready - Minge Cove by Sandpit (BRZ)) also received attention. The Mailet (Rock Hard Ten - Emerging Glory by Smarten) was by far the longest shot on the board at 43-1. Deanaallen'skitten was easy to spot with her big blaze. La Cloche looked good in the paddock, and March Mischief made a favorable impression on the track. There was a big scramble for the lead at the break, with Far Isle (Indian Charlie - Meine Cosmos (IRE) by Caerleon) winning that battle. La Cloche and Deanaallen'skitten were together in 4th and 5th, while The Mailet was behind these in 6th. Far Isle continued to lead into the stretch, but The Mailet was making a menacing move on the outside. Also moving well late was Deanaallen'kitten. But, The Mailet had the jump and pulled away for the win, with Deanaallen'skitten taking second. The Maiden Watch exacta paid $530.00. The Mailet is the 5th winner for Rock Hard Ten. La Cloche tired late, finishing 8th. Watch the Replay.

Chief Counsel Delivers Justice

No scratches in this one. Chief Counsel (Officer - Format by Furiously), who was last seen finishing third in the Monmouth Park NATC Futurity, drew most of the attention of the bettors, going off less than even money. He looked good on the track too. Northern Giant (Giant's Causeway - Jessi Take Charge by War Chant) was another one that caught my eye. Mountain Justice (Afleet Alex - Just Fun by Dehere) received some respect at the windows, 6-1, and looked ready to run. Pronto Caballo (Cactus Ridge - Jorja's Prospect by Prospect Bay) was antsy at the load. Chief Counsel broke on top, pursued by Mountain Justice, who is that rare Afleet Alex to break well first time out, and Northern Giant. But, they chased in vain, as Chief Counsel was just cruising on the lead. First Dude (Stephen Got Even - Run Sarah Run by Smart Strike) and Dr. Hudson (Seeking the Gold - Career Fair by Storm Cat) did make a dent in his lead late, but Chief Counsel was under a hand ride at the finish, and seemed to have more to give. Mountain Justice tired to 8th. Hopefully, he'll be stronger next time. Watch the Replay.
