News and Notes
The pre-entries for the Breeders' Cup were released today. Kitten's Joy is the only one of our 2009 stallions represented, but he is represented in a big way with 5 offspring. In the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf, we have Becky's Kitten, Dean's Kitten, and Kera's Kitten. In the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf is Lisa's Kitten. And, in the Grey Goose Breeders' Cup Juvenile there is William's Kitten. Other freshman sires with Breeders' Cup entries include Leroidesanimaux (Always a Princess - Juvenile Fillies), Pollard's Vision (Blind Luck - Juvenile Fillies), Roman Ruler (Connie and Michael - Juvenile Fillies/Juvenile Fillies Turf), Offlee Wild (She Be Wild - Juvenile Fillies), Limehouse (House of Grace - Juvenile Fillies Turf), and Consolidator (Fist of Rage - Juvenile/Juvenile Turf). We also have some familiar names from last year's stallions. Birdstone has Mine That Bird and Summer Bird in the Classic, with Summer Bird cross-entered in the Turf. And, Lord Shanakill, by Speightstown, is in the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint.
Papaw Broughton (Saint Liam - Princess Pegasus by Fusaichi Pegasus) was scratched from the first at Keeneland on October 28. The winner was Brewer (Successful Appeal - Doctress by Dehere). Vlad the Impailer (Dixie Union - Music Way by Kris S.) finished 5th. Watch the Replay.
Petecarol Pulls Away at Keeneland
Petecarol (Not For Love - Diva Girl by Saint Ballado), who had most recently finished 2nd in the Maryland Million Nursery Stakes, was favored. Doubles Partner (Rock Hard Ten - Serena's Sister by Rahy) was 5-1, and Magic Bullet (Afleet Alex - Magical Mood (GB) by Forestry) was 30-1. Doubles Partner looked a little eager in the warmup. Bluegrass Corredor (El Corredor - Miss Amy R by Deputy Minister) unseated his rider during the load. Freedom Future (Orchard Park - More Freedom by Fire Dancer) went for the lead, but he had plenty of company. First, Pleasant Prince (Indy King - Archduchess by Pleasant Tap) came up the rail to grab it. Then Doubles Partner, who had been about mid-pack, made a mad rush and took command. His lead was short-lived, however, as Petecarol made his move. He took the lead and stayed there, taking the victory by better than 3. I like the stride on Petecarol, he really reaches out. Doubles Partner tired to 7th. Magic Bullet didn't show much, finishing 9th. During the gallop out, Petecarol was feeling frisky and dumped Robby Albarado, but neither seemed to suffer. Robby jumped back up and went on to the Winner's Circle. By the way, Petecarol was claimed out of the race. I bet his former connections didn't think anyone would put up $80,000 for him. Watch the Replay.
