News and Notes
One of the most anticipated 2-year old debuts takes place in race 5 at Keeneland, as Lentenor (Dynaformer - La Ville Rouge by Carson City), full-brother Barbaro, is scheduled to make his first start. Post time for this 7 furlong race is 3:05 PM ET. It's a full field of 12. Morning-line favorite is Positive Split (Repent - Hope of Nations by Two Punch), who has finished 2nd in both of his races, on September 21 at Kentucky Downs and on October 18 at Keeneland. The winner of the September 21 race was Kera's Kitten, who is Breeders' Cup bound. The winner of the October 18 race was the ultra-impressive American Lion. Lentenor has been working at Fair Hill, including 4 furlongs in :50.00 on October 15. More information about Lentenor can be found on the Tracking Barbaro's Brothers Blog.
A Dynamite Victory
Our two horses were a contrast at the windows, Dynazaper (Ghostzapper - Broad Dynamite by Broad Brush) was even money, while Lady Laurie Snow (Afleet Alex - Roused by Saint Ballado) went off at 103-1. There were no scratches. Toll (Giant's Causeway - Yell by A. P. Indy) was kicking up a bit in the paddock. Harlan's Princess (Harlan's Holiday - Pocketbook Passion by Siphon (BRZ)) looked good to me, but I do have an acknowledged weakness for Harlan's Holidays. A number of them were hyper in the post parade, but it was very windy today in Lexington and I think that they have been influencing their behavior. There were also some delays at the load. The wind whipping through the starting gate is a scary sound, especially to mostly unraced 2-year old fillies. There was a scramble up front at the break. A couple of them took a turn, including Entomology (Yankee Gentleman - Bugsy Mae by Zen), Darling Desha (Arch - Super Darling by Raise a Cup), and Sacred Forest (Forestry - Sweet Minister by The Prime Minister). At the back, about 6 lengths behind the rest was Lady Laurie Snow. Dynazaper did not have the best break, but she soon got in the mix, coming up the rail and getting to the lead. Once she hit the front, she began to open up, taking the race by 6. She is winner number 6 for Ghostzapper. Toll came running late to take second, and Entomology hung in there for third. I admit that I lost sight of Lady Laurie Snow. After her poor start, I assumed that she trailed throughout. However, checking the complete order of finish, I found that she was 5th, just a neck out of fourth. Amazingly, she passed 5 horses in the stretch. Watching the replay, I saw that most of this work was done on the rail. Yes, there were some tired fillies in front of her, but it was still a good finish. Watch the Replay.

The Lady Bites the Big Apple
Luna Clara (Buddha - Decapolis by Glomar), part of an entry with Lady Apple (Saint Liam - Shot Gun Favorite by Eltish), was scratched, as was Read the Form (Read the Footnotes - Forever Bound by Honour and Glory). A number of the fillies took money from the bettors, but Classy Jet (A. P Jet - Classy Commander by Deputy Commander) was favored at post time. Lady Apple was 9-2. The track was labeled good. Sheria (Devil His Due - Our Lady T by Ruhlman) looked good in the paddock. Lady Apple was swishing her tail. Just as they were about to head out to the track, there was a delay and all the riders hopped off. Then, Karakorum Jete (Dance With Ravens - Culet by A. P Jet) was announced as a late scratch. Apparently, Karakorum Jete kicked her jockey, Amanda Casey. NYRAnews on twitter is reporting that Casey will not need surgery, but that she will be out a minimum of 4 weeks. Once the rest of the fillies got to the track, it was just a couple of minutes to post. They did let them take a little extra time to warm-up. Classy Jet reared at the load, but she broke on top. Lady Apple broke well also. She was in third early, then moved into second, and then drew even. She seemed a tad reluctant to go by, but under a hand ride from Jose Lezcano, she began to pull free, winning by better than 2. Sheria came on late to pick up the show spot. Watch the Replay.
