Back in the Saddle

I hope everyone had a good Breeders' Cup. Maiden Watch is back and ready for action. I will use this post to recap all the results from November 6 through November 10, as well as preview Maiden Special Weight races for November 11. I will not list all the workouts missed during this period, just the workouts for November 10.

Breeders' Cup

Lisa's Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Chianti Red by Woodman) finished 10th in the Juvenile Fillies Turf. She never really looked comfortable out there to me. Interestingly, we did profile winner Tapitsfly's (Tapit - Flying Marlin by Marlin) maiden win on Maiden Watch, a 7 furlong race on the main track at Saratoga on August 3, a race in which Lisa's Kitten finished 4th.

Dean's Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Summer Theatre by Ide) ran on late to finish 6th in the Juvenile Turf, while Becky's Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Caterette by Cozzene) was part of the early pace and tired to 9th. Kera's Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Mrs. K. by Dixieland Band) was scratched.

William's Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Blush by Menifee) trailed early, and then made a bit of a move while running about 12-wide, to finish 8th in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile

Other Stakes Results

Even though the Kittens failed to hit the board in the Breeders' Cup, we did have stakes success this past weekend. Buddy's Saint (Saint Liam - Tuzia by Blushing John) was ultra-impressive in the Nashua Stakes (gr. III) at Aqueduct. He went right for the lead, dueling with big favorite Toboggan Slide (Rock Slide - My Aunt Dianne by Norquestor). He put that one away and then drew off to win by 12. This was his first official win. He finished first in his debut on September 26 at Belmont, but was disqualified and placed second. Also in the Nashua was Quick Ride (Afleet Alex - Baby Lets Cruise by Tale of the Cat), who finished 5th.
