News and Notes

Wicked Charm (Ghostzapper - Belva by Theatrical (IRE)) was scratched from her race at Laurel, which did come off the turf and was run on the muddy main track. The winner was Dictate the Tempo (Dixie Union - Rosthern by Broad Brush). Watch the Replay. By the way, they won't be running turf races at Laurel for the rest of the year

Vivacious Anna (Afleet Alex - Petite Chatte by Storm Cat) was the 3-5 favorite in her Maiden Special Weight at Charles Town. But, she was a late scratch after appearing to get cast in the starting gate. They freed her fairly quickly, and she walked off under her own power, so hopefully she'll be back in action soon. The winner was Imanheiress (Smoke Glacken - Miss Moola by Saint Ballado), who absolutely loved the slop. Watch the Replay.

Please let me know if you are having trouble watching the race replays. Last night, they didn't seem to be working, so I took them out of the post. But, now they are working. So, it may just be me. You can also view the replay by selecting the "View Race Details" link.

Kuggerand Tames Tom Kitten

The only scratches were the AEs and the MTOs, the turf was firm. Bishop of Nola (Devil His Due - Via Mizner by Forty Niner) was favored, while Tom Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Coax Classic by Caveat) was 9-2. Butterfield Road (Anasheed - Pleasure Chest by Lycius) balked a bit at the load, and Bishop of Nola was a little restless. Good to Be Me (A. P Jet - Pierpont Account by Private Account) went for the early lead, while Tom Kitten secured a good spot near the back on the rail. Kuggerand (Johannesburg - Bid's Femme by Loustrous Bid) came through on the inside to take the lead from Good to Be Me. These two battled for a time, before Kuggerand sprinted free and got the victory. Thunder Chief (Thunder Gulch - Miss Yiayia by Gilded Time) came on late to best the rest. Tom Kitten made a move on the outside to claim the third spot. Favorite Bishop of Nola was never much involved, finishing 10th (last). Watch the Replay.

Pick and Praying on Klea

No scratches in this one. Favoritism volleyed between the Songandaprayer fillies Honor Hymn (Songandaprayer - Astrid by Concern) and Pick and Pray (Songandaprayer - Miss Pickums by Afternoon Deelites), with Honor Hymn getting the nod at post time. Klea (Afleet Alex - Del Rae by Formal Gold) was a respectable 8-1. Pick and Pray was the stand-out of the post parade and she broke on top. Klea was near the back. Honor Hymn went after Pick and Pray, but she couldn't catch her. In the stretch, Pick and Pray scampered away to win by better than 9, despite showing a little greenness in the stretch. Honor Hymn was a clear second, and Four Daughters (Consolidator - Sixkissesforsara by Saratoga Six) finished a nice third, after stumbling at the start. Klea made up some ground on the outside, but stalled at 5th. Pick and Pray is trained by Paul McGee, who also trained her dam, grade II winner Miss Pickums. Watch the Replay.
