Baileys Beach Outfights Spangled Star
Bubbling Springs (Touch Gold - Aly's Adita by Alydar) took the early money, but Spangled Star (Distorted Humor - Spangled by Kris S.) was the choice at post time. Cutter (Saint Liam - Brite Diamond by Deputy Minister) was the second pick of the bettors. Bubbling Springs acted up before the load, they got him in sans rider. Santa Fe Chief (Thunder Gulch - Willamaze by Broad Brush) veered out at the start. That was pretty much end of story for him. Spangled Star went to the lead, pursued first by Should Be Dancin' (Dance With Ravens - Lip Sing's Affair by Black Tie Affair (IRE)) and Whoseafraid (Gators N Bears - Mirkwood by Far North). Cutter was behind horses, but he really wanted to go. Baileys Beach (Out of Place - Mexicali Rose by El Gran Senor) went after Spangled Star, and these two soon separated from the rest. They dueled to the wire, with Baileys Beach getting his nose in front. The jockey on Spangled Star dropped his whip, but I'm not sure it made a difference. Cutter checked hard on the far turn and was out of it after that. He ended up 5th. I missed Cutter's check live, it must have happened while I was tweeting. One second he was right in the thick of things, and the next second he was out of the picture. It appeared to be mostly his own doing, running up on the heels of the horse in front of him. He was rank from the beginning of the race, probably a little fresh after his time off. Watch the Replay.
