Harissa Stars in Hollywood

  • Comments

There were no scratches, and the Cushion track was fast as always. Smoothe as Candy (Candy Ride (ARG) - Crownette by Seattle Slew), full-sister to Chocolate Candy, was favored early, but Fashion Trend (Petionville - Danzigs Fashion by A Native Danzig), full sister to Island Fashion, was the choice as they loaded. Harissa (Afleet Alex - Dynasty by Time for a Change) went off at 6-1. She was on her toes in the paddock. Smoothe as Candy made a good impression as they moved onto the track. Once on the track, Primrose Hill (Giant's Causeway - Marylebone by Unbridled's Song) was acting up. Smoothe as Candy went to the lead, with Harissa sticking right to her. It'smyburtday (Stormy Atlantic - Talega by Devil's Bag), who was third early, was very rank in the early going. Primrose Hill broke inward and was at the back. Smoothe as Candy and Harissa continued to duel, separating from the rest by 5 lengths or more. In the stretch, Harissa moved to the lead. But, Fashion Trend was coming. Fortunately, Harissa had enough left to hold on for the win, becoming winner #18 for Afleet Alex. Fashion Trend is definitely one to watch, and I wouldn't be surprised if Smoothe as Candy was a winner next time, as this was her first try around 2 turns. Watch the Replay.
