News and Notes

Doilookfatnthese (Saint Liam - Big Tease by Gold Token) was scratched from her Maiden Special Weight at Hawthorne. The winner was Sassy Lady Rocket (Richter Scale - Be Six by Saratoga Six). Watch the Replay.

A big congratulations to 3-year old colt Port Stanley (Perfect Soul (IRE) - Alybeal by Alysheba), who broke his maiden in a 1 1/16 mile Maiden Special Weight at Woodbine. He is not a Maiden Watch horse, but he is on my personal Watch list, so he gets a mention. He displayed his usual tendency to settle at the back today, and I thought he had no shot with fractions of :25.19 and :49.70. But, he showed his late kick and won by a neck. Way to go Stanley! Despite taking 11 tries for his maiden score, Port Stanley has earned $86,284. In addition to his victory, he has 2 seconds and 3 thirds. Watch the Replay.

I agree about "Winslow Homer" in win at Philadelphia Park, he had a very strong late kick, jockey looked like a statue, Mario Pino, I think...Anthony Dutrow trained horse, would like to see this one step up into NY competition...Don

I have Winslow Homer in my equibase stable because 1) His broodmare sire is Summer Squall - my all time favorite race horse

2) I liked his maiden win at Saratoga and 3) I have always loved the paintings of Winslow Homer. Winslow Homer is the only Unbridled Song offspring I have ever had as a personal favorite. I have a lot of issues with how unsound US offspring are. They never race long and almost always retire with an injury. This may be off topic but I think the sounder stallions should be promoted.
