News and Notes

Deanaallen'skitten (Kitten's Joy - Miss Carmella (IRE) by Carmelite House) and In This Life (Ghostzapper - Spy Novel by Broad Brush) were both scratched from race 9 at Aqueduct, which was run on yielding turf. The winner was Sea Road (Tale of the Cat - Packet by Polish Navy). Deanaallen'skitten's entrymate, Vee (Leroidesanimaux (BRZ) - Vallera (GER) by Monsun (GER)), finished 3rd. Watch the Replay.

A Vivacious Victory

The track was muddy. P. H. Firestarter (Devon Deputy - Playful Hands by Play Fellow) was scratched. Vivacious Anna (Afleet Alex - Petite Chatte by Storm Cat) was once again the big favorite. Tanivan (Wiseman's Ferry - Bid On Love by Not For Love) was on her toes. Vivacious Anna, who was a scratch at the gate the last time that she was entered, loaded without incident. Rutledge's Love (Not For Love - Rutledge Flirt by King of Kings (IRE)) went to the early lead, and Ann (Successful Appeal - Mare Ann by Aloma's Ruler) went after her. Vivacious Anna secured a rail spot behind the speed. Ann went ahead of Rutledge's Love, but the latter filly was sticking close. Vivacious Anna was coming. For a moment, it looked like she wasn't going to get there. But, she continued to grind it out, and passed Ann late to become winner number 19 for Afleet Alex. Watch the Replay.

A Fortunate Run by the Big Cat

This one was taken off the turf and run at a mile on the dirt, which was fast. Bounder (Orientate - Schemer by Concern), Capridge (Cactus Ridge - Cap Beino by Lyphard), Johannesburg Smile (Johannesburg - Serenity's Smile by Dixie Brass), Luminesce (Mr. Light (ARG) - Dazzling Diva by Wild Rush), Shekomeko Son (Smart Strike - Summer Solstice (IRE) by Caerleon), and Unforgettable P J (Unforgettable Max - P J's Kid by Northern Trend) were scratched. MTO Fortunate Run (Cherokee Run - Hope's Ahead by Alwuhush) was favored. It's the Big Cat (Kitten's Joy - Sweeping Cat by End Sweep) was 7-1. I kind of liked the look of another MTO, Brunelli (Pleasant Tap - Shock It by Double Negative). It's the Big Cat broke from the rail on account of the scratches, and went right to the lead. Brunelli was pressing. These two continued to duel into the stretch, but Fortunate Run was watching the action in third. Brunelli began to tire, and it was left to It's the Big Cat to hold off Fortunate Run. He hung in for awhile, but gradually Fortunate Run got by, drawing off to win by 5. However, It's the Big Cat did well to hold second, a good 3 lengths ahead of the rest of them. Watch the Replay.
