Brain Trust Smartly Over Playful Pussycat and Marvelous Monkey

Brain Trust (Posse - Mensa Madam by Beau Genius) was favored at even money. Marvelous Monkey (Saint Liam - Liberty Flag by Kingmambo) was second choice at 3-1, and Playful Pussycat (Kitten's Joy - Feisty Ferdinand by Ferdinand) was 6-1. Never Denied (Stonecoldbroke - Ann of Oxford by Slavic) rushed up the rail to take the early lead. Royal Cherokee Run (Yonaguska - Royal Lassie by Deerhound) and Brain Trust were pressing the early pace, and Playful Pussycat was up close in 4th. First-timer Marvelous Monkey was off a little slowly. Brain Trust took command in the stretch, racing well off the rail. Closing ground were Castle Foil (Castledale (IRE) - Lady Inverness by Red Ryder), Star Crazy (Consolidator - Makin' Calls by Phone Trick), and Victoria's Journey (Yankee Gentleman - Humility and Awe by Fast Play). Playful Pussycat flattened out some and finished 5th, just a nose in front of Marvelous Monkey, who did pass a few in the stretch. Watch the Replay.

King of Mountaineer

It was raining at Mountaineer, but the track was still fast at post time. There were no scratches. Favoritism volleyed between Ready Victory (Victory Gallop - Flying Red Jet by Halo) and Mickejoe (Bernstein - Harmattan by Thunder Gulch), with Ready Victory getting the nod at post time. Saint Hubert (Saint Liam - Warren's Whistle by Wolf Power (SAF)) was 15-1. We'll See Laurie (Medallist - Laura Lynn by Captain Bodgit) had some spring in his step, and McBean (Trippi - Kobella Bean by Mecke) was bucking a bit as they headed to the track. Saint Hubert was off well, but was forced to go wide. Bare Advantage (Consolidator - Goldilocks N Bear by Tactical Advantage) held the early lead, but he gave it up quick and Ready Victory and Mister Monsieur (Thunder Gulch - Very Very by Royal Academy) were dueling. Saint Hubert was in a good position in 4th at this point, but he soon retreated and ended up 9th (last). In the stretch, Kingofthebluegrass (Petionville - Two to Waltz by Seattle Slew) took command, with Mickejoe chasing. Kingofthebluegrass ducked out, but he got home in front. There was a stewards' inquiry and a jockey's objection concerning the stretch run, but the results stood. Kingofthebluegrass definitely crossed in front of Mickejoe, but he appeared to be clear and Mickejoe never stopped running. Watch the Replay.

Don from Delaware

I was very impressed with "Liam's Dream" win at Philly the other day, I thought Age of Humor would win the race, but she was not match for this young gal...I like her breeding and think she should stretch out just fine at least to 1 mile, hopefully more....one to watch...thanks Don

Don from Delaware - Well, Liam's Dream certainly hasn't done anything wrong yet. I was also impressed with Monday's race, because it seemed so easy for her.
