News and Notes
Three-year old filly Stone Legacy (filly; Birdstone - Gulch Legacy by Gulch), famous for finishing 2nd in Rachel Alexandra's Kentucky Oaks, was back in the winner's circle today, as she won an Allowance race at Fair Grounds. It was a nice win, as she closed into a slow pace and survived some bumping from Tilodi. Watch the Replay.
Harveyetta has the Eye of a Winner
Track was fast, Mambo Aimee (Monarch's Maze - Peaceful Approval by With Approval) was the only scratch. Woke Up Smilin (Woke Up Dreamin - Madison Grace by Just a Tab), the Steve Asmussen trainee, was favored. Eyes of a Saint (Saint Liam - Eyeofthestorm by Summer Squall) was the second choice. Share the Dream (Toccet - Share the Wealth by Key to the Mint) had some pep in the paddock. Eyes of a Saint looked calm in the post parade. First-timer Asian Dream (Mingun - Greely's Dream by Mr. Greeley) warmed up strong. Share the Dream loaded with a blanket. The break was pretty even, Holy Motion (Holy Bull - Tuft of Flowers by Two Punch) won the early scramble for the lead. She was pursued by Harveyetta (Cactus Ridge - Miss Moneywise by Crafty Prospector). Bella Marie (Smoke Glacken - Beautiful by Rahy) made an early move and drew even with Holy Motion. Eyes of a Saint was in 4th and was moving. In the stretch, Harveyetta rolled to the lead. She was green, but got the win by a half-length. Eyes of a Saint made a run late to third, and galloped out strong. Harveyetta paid a nice $85.40 for the victory. In retrospect, this one was ripe for a big payoff, as the only horses taking money were Woke Up Smilin, Eyes of a Saint, and Bella Marie. Watch the Replay.

No Praise for the Monk
The track was fast, J Leonard (Closing Argument - Royal Interest by Royal Academy) and Showmanship (Yes It's True - Home From Oz by Pulpit) were scratched. Tempted to Tapit (Tapit - Tempting Note by Editor's Note) was favored, but Laus Deo (Medaglia d'Oro - Shebane by Alysheba) received a lot of attention from the bettors as well. He looked good in the warm-up. Trappist Monk (Saint Liam - Merengue by Broad Brush) was almost 92-1. It was quite chilly at Philadelphia Park and they pretty much went right to the gate. Smooth Sailing (Rock Slide - Royal Mast by Roy) went to the early lead, followed by Brasilier (Leroidesanimaux (BRZ) - Hostile Fleet by Hostage). Trappist Monk was not in the picture, but he did have one beat. Tempted to Tapit, who wasn't far off the pace, moved to the outside of Smooth Sailing and assumed the lead. But, Laus Deo was driving and moved on by for the victory. By the way, the title of the section refers to the fact that Laus Deo is Latin for "praise to god." Watch the Replay.

The Friday Star
The track was fast, and there were no scratches. Vlad the Impailer (Dixie Union - Music Way by Kris S.) took the early money, but the slight favorite at post time was Park Rules (Peace Rules - Chelsea Park by El Prado (IRE)). Just behind that one on the tote board was Star Friday (Five Star Day - Feels Like Friday by Anet). Speedy Solution (Afleet Alex - Perfect Solution by Seeking the Gold) was 6-1. He looked good in the paddock. Brunnera (Southern Image - Laurie's Balada by Saint Ballado) was acting up a bit as they went to the track. Vlad the Impailer broke on top, but Star Friday took the early lead. Speedy Solution was at the back in the early stages, but it was a compact field. Vlad the Impailer was the nearest pursuer to Star Friday for the first half, but he was passed by Brunnera. Brunnera chased Star Friday all the way to the wire, but he was unable to make up any ground. Star Friday took the race by a length and a half. A weakening Vlad the Impailer just held off Park Rules for third. Speedy Solution didn't have a lot of spunk late, finishing 5th. Watch the Replay.
