Sheltowee (colt; Saint Liam - Crafty Oak by Crafty Prospector) was last early in the Jim Edgar Illinois Futurity, as usual. Patti's Kitten Takes Turfway

The bettors eyes were all on Patti's Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Hillary Step by Chimes Band), as he went off at even money. Vow to Wager (Broken Vow - Wage a Penny by Valid Wager) looked good in the post parade. Tap N Point (Point Given - Tap to Talk by Pleasant Tap) was on his toes. The break was even, Tap N Point went to the front. Van Goal (Van Nistelrooy - Cissy Blair by Dallasite) and Black Patch (Chief Seattle - Irish Ginger by Wavering Monarch) were involved some early, but soon retreated. Patti's Kitten made an early move to get into contention. Also moving was Pronto Caballo (Cactus Ridge - Jorja's Prospect by Prospect Bay). Tap N Point still held the lead, but he couldn't hold off the oncoming Patti's Kitten. Patti's Kitten, who is winner #17 for Kitten's Joy, pulled away to win by 2. He has nice stride, eats up a lot of ground. Watch the Replay.

A Thousand Excuses for Tom and It's the Big Cat

The only scratches were the AEs for this one, which was run on a fast track. Castaneda (Yonaguska - Winloc's Gramie by Belong to Me) was the early buzz horse among the bettors, but Johannesburg Smile (Johannesburg - Serenity's Smile by Dixie Brass) was favored at post time. He looked good in the paddock. It's the Big Cat (Kitten's Joy - Sweeping Cat by End Sweep) was 10-1 and Tom Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Coax Classic by Caveat) was 12-1. Castaneda made a good impression on the racetrack. Another one looking good was Eire's Run (Performing Magic - Tiz Paula by Tiznow). It's the Big Cat went for the early lead, but Backcountry Boy (Smarty Jones - Beautiful America by Dixie Brass) beat him to it. It's the Big Cat assumed a pressing position. Castaneda was just off these two. Tom Kitten was at the back early on. Backcountry Boy and It's the Big Cat continued to run 1-2 into the stretch, when It's the Big Cat began to tire, he ended up 9th. Thousand Excuses (Millennium Wind - Cantrell Road by Atticus) squeezed through on the inside and spurted away, winning by better than 4. Also getting through on the inside was Eire's Run, who finished second. Tom Kitten loomed on the outside for awhile, but flattened out and finished 7th. I find it ironic that Thousand Excuses, own and bred by Sarah and and Ken Ramsey, defeated two Kitten's Joys in this one. Watch the Replay.
