No Defence for Phoenix Force

The turf was yielding. Youhaveafriendinme (Roar of the Tiger - Wedding Jitters by Runaway Groom) and In for a Song (Songandaprayer - Seek by Devil's Bag) were scratched, allowing AEs Smoking the Field (Freefourinternet - Margin Note by Notebook) and Darkestbeforedawn (Stormy Atlantic - Birthright by Belong to Me) to run. Smoking the Field was favored, Syo Defenceman (Afleet Alex - Southern Sandra by Dixie Brass) went off at almost 8-1. Syo Defenceman was smacked at the start, but secured a rail spot behind the leading pair of Maximoso (Concerto - Le Nat by Dynaformer) and Toro Santo (Holy Bull - Dynamic Reaction by Dynaformer). Positions remained pretty much unchanged into the stretch, although Phoenix Force (Eddington - Ms. Isadora by Miswaki) began to move closer. Syo Defenceman got through on the inside, but was outfinished by Phoenix Force, who took the win. Phoenix Force, who paid $98.40 for the win, is winner number 16 for Eddington. This was definitely Syo Defenceman's best outing. He seems to have a future on the turf. Watch the Replay.

Bravo! Whiskey

Track was sloppy (sealed), but there were no scratches. Brigade Commander (Stormy Atlantic - Sariano by Rubiano) was favored. American Fleet (Afleet Alex - American Heiress by Quiet American) went off at close to 16-1. Edwards (Forestry - Born Perfect by Mr. Prospector) looked good in the paddock. Elle Union (Dixie Union - Onceinabluemamoon by Al Mamoon) had some bounce in his step. We were treated to an extreme close-up of American Fleet, as he loaded in the gate (you can see this on the replay). Elle Union broke on top, and Edwards was up there too, as well as Brigade Commander. American Fleet dropped to the back. Brigade Commander made a move on the outside, but flattened out. A more sustained move was made by Bravo Whiskey (Smart Strike - Spanked by Deputy Minister), who went by them all and kept on running. He ended up winning by 6. American Fleet didn't run much, but he did finish in front of favorite Brigade Commander. Watch the Replay.

Hooten Town Hill Rocks the Mountain

The track was muddy (sealed), but everybody ran. The filly Squabble (Domestic Dispute - Case of the Blues by In Case) took all the early money, but Hooten Town Hill (Monashee Mountain - Poquito Nikawa by Parade Ground) was the choice at post time. Roll 'n Rock (Rock Hard Ten - Lady Stack by Stack) took some early money as well, but ended up going off at 23-1. Strategic Disguise (Strategic Mission - Disguisedindeed by Alydeed) kicked up his heels in the walking ring. Hooten Town Hill looked good. Roll 'n Rock was full of energy in the post parade, while Big Hearted Frank (Werblin - Kalli Xan by Temperance Hill) warmed up nicely. Roll 'n Rock broke ok, but dropped back. In front, there was a match race going on with Squabble and Mountain Legend (Defiant Lord - Meryl's Choice by Louis Quatorze). They put a good 7 lengths between themselves and the rest of the field. Squabble finally put Mountain Legend away, but Hooten Town Hill was coming. Squabble put up little resistance, as Hooten Town Hill zoomed on by. Squabble was well-clear of the rest of them. Roll 'n Rock actually did some running late, finishing just a head out of 7. Five and a half furlongs might be a little too short for him. Watch the Replay.
