Afleet Again (colt; Afleet Alex - Lucky Again by Wild Again) raced wide and near the back throughout the Count Fleet Stakes at Aqueduct, finishing 5th. The winner was Laus Deo (Medaglia d'Oro - Shebane by Alysheba), who took command early and held off all comers. I'd like to think that my yelling got him home, as Laus Deo is out of one of my favorite horses, Shebane. He paid a nice $22.80 for the win. You may remember that we had Laus Deo's maiden victory on December 11. Favorite Ibboyee was an uninspired 4th. Watch the Replay. Read more about the Count Fleet here.

Kera's Kitten (colt; Kitten's Joy - Mrs. K. by Dixieland Band) stumbled badly at the break in the Turfway Prevue Stakes, and lost all chance after that. He did pass one to finish 7th. The winner was Z. I. Zipp (City Zip - Mayan by Cherokee Run), who led from the start and won by 4 1/4 lengths. Watch the Replay. Read more about the Turfway Prevue here.

Brake Lights Out

El Tune (El Corredor - Our Tune by Concorde's Tune) was scratched, as well as the AEs Freshman Dorm (Orientate - Chatham Hall by Green Dancer) and Poseidon (Friends Lake - Witness Post by Gone West). Themanintheglass (Malibu Moon - Valid Tenet by Valid Appeal) was even money, and he looked the part in the paddock. Brake Lights (Saint Liam - Miss Golden Circle by Crafty Prospector) went off at 3-1. I liked the look of Freefourme (Freefourinternet - Straight Country by Straight Man). Rasher (Yes It's True - Rash by Miswaki) loaded first sans rider. Brake Lights took the early lead, with Themanintheglass and Z Force (Harlan's Holiday - If Bald Music by Stop the Music) tracking. Brake Lights continued to lead, as Calvello (Tapit - Sainttwok by Saint Ballado) made a bit of a move. Brake Lights pulled clear in the stretch, however, and it was just question of final margin. The answer was 9 1/2 lengths. Very impressive win for Brake Lights. I've Got the Fever (Stephen Got Even - Music Fever by Gold Fever) outfinished Freefourme for the 2nd spot, and Themanintheglass faded to last. Watch the Replay.

A Spangled Star

The track was fast and everybody ran. Spangled Star (Distorted Humor - Spangled by Kris S.) was the favorite, and Trappist Monk (Saint Liam - Merengue by Broad Brush) was 77-1. How Bout Jerry (Dance With Ravens - How 'bout Chris by Unbridled) looked best in the paddock, and Nagajuskita (Yonaguska - Miss Turkomania by Turkoman) was on his toes. Spangled Star was feeling his oats as they headed to the track. Nagajuskita took the early lead, stalked by How Bout Jerry and Spangled Star. Trappist Monk was at the back with Albrecht (Include - Mindy Gayle by Cutlass) and Durer (Smart Strike - Broad Expectations by Broad Brush). The pace up front was pretty pedestrian, :25.08, :50.19, 1:15.57. Spangled Star was just waiting for room. Once he found it, he surged to the front, pulling away to a 4 1/4 length victory. Trappist Monk finished where he started, at the back. Albrecht and Durer finished together, which seems right. Watch the Replay.
