Rock Is King

Marine Major (Toccet - Crystal Gem by Affirmed) and Cat Nip Denny (Fantasticat - Widow Women by Synastry) were scratched. King Rock (Rock Hard Ten - Queen Mindy by King of Kings (IRE)) was 12-1 at first flash, but went off favored at 5-2. Hardly Dark Out (Speightstown - Dijon by French Deputy) and Big City Deputy (Silver Deputy - Big City Dream by Horatius) also received some attention from the bettors. The horses were in the paddock until 5 minutes to post, ah the joys of winter racing. King Rock looked good once they got to the track. Walt's Whiz (Sky Mesa - Fourth Daughter by Smoke Glacken) went for the early lead. Bring You Down (Dance With Ravens - Broach by Our Emblem) and Confidence Crisis (Vindication - Cariada by Seeking the Gold) were chasing. King Rock wasn't far off, saving ground. He was full of run, but had no place to go. In the stretch, Big City Deputy (Silver Deputy - Big City Dream by Horatius) came running and hit the front. But, King Rock finally found a way through, and wore down Big City Deputy for a professional victory. Watch the Replay.

Quiet All American Scores

The track was sloppy and the weather was miserable. Marching Tune (Malibu Moon - Itama by Tabasco Cat) and Morethanatale (More Than Ready - Dream Street by Tale of the Cat) were scratched. Cravin Caden (Saint Liam - Lacie Girl by Editor's Note) was the slight favorite at post time, but Desert Lord (Elusive Quality - Desert Queen by Wavering Monarch) received plenty of support as well. Kerouac (Rock Hard Ten - Coronation Cup by Chief's Crown) was 26-1. He certainly is his father's son, he is one big boy. There was quite a tussle for the early lead: Quiet All American (Forest Camp - Quiet Summernight by Quiet American), Systemic Risk (Tapit - Despot by Wavering Monarch), and Ready to Dazzle (More Than Ready - Eye Dazzler by Boundary) were all involved. Cravin Caden was about mid-pack, and Kerouac was off to a slow start. Quiet All American maintained the lead into the stretch. Desert Lord made a run at him, but came up a neck short. Moe Man (Yes It's True - Maya by Capote) just grabbed third from Cravin Caden. Kerouac finished 6th. After his slow start, he was involved for a time, then tired late. He'll be stronger next outing. Watch the Replay.

Gary D, that's Who We Gunna Call

It was raining, but the track was fast. Cavalli (Songandaprayer - Andante by Sky Classic) and Guiding Missile (Golden Missile - Bolshoi Ballerina by Theatrical (IRE)) were scratched (Guiding Missile was a late scratch). Who We Gunna Call (Ghostzapper - Touch Dial by Phone Trick) was favored early, but Wicked Tune (Concorde's Tune - Pretty Wicked by The Wicked North) was the post-time choice. Ink (Unbridled's Song - Queen of Spirit by Deputy Minister) looked good in the post parade. Who We Gunna Call was eager. Who We Gunna Call hesitated a bit at the load, Forestry Type (Forestry - Adel by Strawberry Road (AUS)) needed more persuading. Forestry Type and Gary D (Successful Appeal - Harford Ghost by Silver Ghost) dueled early, Who We Gunna Call was off slow. Gary D pulled away from Forestry Type and went on to a more than 6 length win. Interestingly, he was the only entrant with prior Tampa Bay experience. Who was that coming late, taking 4th in a photo? None other than Who We Gunna Call, who made up a ton of ground in the stretch. Watch the Replay.

Using Major Momentum over Crimson Glory

The race was taken off of the turf and run on the main track, which was listed as good at post time. But, it didn't look that good and was changed to sloppy after this race. Nehru (Mingun - Run Early Run Fast by Cherokee Run) and Assorted Colors (Snow Ridge - Melody of Colors by Concorde's Tune) were scratched. Crimson Glory (Ghostzapper - Buy the Sport by Devil's Bag) was favored, close to even money. Major Momentum (Speightstown - Major Wager by Valid Wager) was looking lively. Montana Knight (Seattle Fitz (ARG) - Watch That Girl by Deposit Ticket) looked good in the post parade, and warmed up strong. Anwar Sadat (Mr. Greeley - Chinoe Road by Old Trieste) was reluctant to load. Crimson Glory went right to the lead from her rail spot. Top Yank (Yankee Gentleman - Primequest by Coronado's Quest) went after her, and Major Momentum (Speightstown - Major Wager by Valid Wager) joined in the fun as well. Crimson Glory started going backwards at the quarter pole. She ended up 6th. Major Momentum put Top Yank away, and then drew off to a sparkling 6 1/2 length win. Not sure if it was the surface or the rail, which was dead all day, that did Crimson Glory in, but we'll throw this one out and wait for another day. Watch the Replay.
