Dixie Takes Them Down

The only scratch was AE entrant Island Soul (Perfect Soul (IRE) - Copper Belle by Carson City). Down With Dixie (Purge - Dixie Sue by Dixieland Band) was favored. Northern Giant (Giant's Causeway - Jessi Take Charge by War Chant) and Bwana Moja (Limehouse - Afleet Would by Afleet) also received their share of attention from the bettors. Sheltowee (Saint Liam - Crafty Oak by Crafty Prospector) was 5-1, and Tenplus (Rock Hard Ten - One Beautiful Lady by Broad Brush) was 18-1. Down With Dixie went right to the lead, pursued by Elle Union (Dixie Union - Onceinabluemamoon by Al Mamoon) and Northern Giant (Giant's Causeway - Jessi Take Charge by War Chant). Tenplus was in a good position, around 4th, and Sheltowee was at the back, as is his custom. In the stretch, Elle Union began to retreat, and Endorsement (Distorted Humor - Charmed Gift by A. P. Indy) made a run for the lead. There was no catching, Down With Dixie, however, who went on to an easy 2 1/4 length victory. Tenplus lost ground late to finish 6th, and Sheltowee was just behind him in 7th. Watch the Replay.

I've been wanting to comment on "Doubles Partner" and now I can add "Country Queen".

I remember those fillies/mares the first time around (didn't Country Queen the first win a couple of stakes in the 70's? 80's)? And Doubles Partner the first had some great family connections (Chris Evert?).

Again, just to refresh my (fading) memory, how long do you have to wait before you can use a name again?

mz - Names are released by Jockey Club after 10 years (for more information about this: www.jockeyclub.com/registry.asp).

The first Doubles Partner (1984 mare; Damascus - Fabuleux Jane by Le Fabuleux) was a grade III winner in 1987. She produced a couple of winners. I don't see a connection to Chris Evert, but maybe I didn't dig far enough.

The Country Queen (Explodent - Carrie's Rough by Rough'n Tumble) you are probably thinking of was a grade I winner born in 1975. She earned $587,712 and won or placed in 15 stakes. She produced 6 winners, including stakes winner River Char.

See what happens when you remember something but not enough?  Fabuluex Jane = daughter of Native Partner (THAT great family connection) and was also granddam of Arazi.

And yes, I was thinking about the Country Queen you found.

Thx for info (and trip/wander down memory lane).
