The Saint Comes Marching In

The turf was firm, and the only scratches were the AEs. Gold Medallion (Medaglia d'Oro - Supah Gem by Gold Meridian) was favored, but Saint Eligius (Saint Liam - Great Connection by Dayjur) was also respected at 3-1. Saint Eligius broke well, but let Gold Medallion have the lead early. Also up close were Sea of Sea (Fantastic Light - Element of Truth by Atticus) and Tangled Passion (Petionville - Untangled by Unbridled). In the stretch, Saint Eligius went after the leader and slowly pulled away, taking the win by 1 3/4 lengths. Coming on late was Saint Jude (Eurosilver - Rahy's Wish by Rahy), who overtook Gold Medallion to complete the Holy exacta (the other Saint horse, Saint Dynaformer (Dynaformer - Saintly Action by Saint Ballado) finished 5th). Bell's Shoes have Hidden Value

Traci's Thunder (Thunder Gulch - Traci's Wild by Langfuhr) was scratched. Afleet of Angels (Afleet Alex - Come On Bid by Spectacular Bid) took most of the attention from the bettors, although Bell's Shoes (Mineshaft - Isabell's Shoes by King of Kings (IRE)) took some play as well. Afleet of Angels looked really good in the post parade. Honor Hymn (Songandaprayer - Astrid by Concern) made a positive impression as well. Hidden Value (Value Plus - Raw Gold by Rahy) and Honor Hymn battled early, Bell's Shoes assumed a stalking position. Afleet of Angels was near the back. Bell's Shoes made her move on the outside, and drove to a clear lead over Hidden Value. 40-1 Sizzleate (Orientate - Saratoga Sizzle by Saratoga Six) rallied to take third, and Afleet of Angels motored late to grab 4th over a tiring Honor Hymn. Showing Ultimate Class

Hot Cappucino (Medaglia d'Oro - Warm the Drum by Kingmambo) was scratched, allowing AE Quiet by Seven (Quiet American - One O Seven by Vice Regent) to run. Vee (Leroidesanimaux (BRZ) - Vallera (GER) by Monsun (GER)) was favored. Karen Sue's Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Citiscape by Citidancer) was 4-1, and Glorious Memory (Kitten's Joy - Glorious Linda (FR) by Le Glorieux (GB)) was 56-1. Both looked calm in the paddock. Pearly Blue (Empire Maker - Western Ransom by Red Ransom) caught my eye as they moved to the track. Blazing Honor (Honor Glide - Autum Blaze by Private Terms) protested a bit at the load. Ultimate Class (During - Ecstatic Girls by Mr. Greeley) broke on top, and Karen Sue's Kitten was in a good position in third. Little Red Rider (Limehouse - Ridinghood by Red Ransom) was off slowly, and Glorious Memory was off awkwardly. Ultimate Class continued to lead into the stretch, as Karen Sue's Kitten retreated. Pearly Blue took a run at the lead, but Ultimate Class had enough to score a length victory. Little Red Rider recovered from her slow start to pick up third. Glorious Memory ended up 8th, and Karen Sue's Kitten finished 12th (last). Watch the Replay.

A Full Storm

The weather was rainy and the track was sloppy, but there were no scratches. Full Storm (Full Mandate - Stormack by Future Storm) was favored, Savona (Afleet Alex - Andora Springs by Capote) was 6-1. Johnnydgood (Forestwood - Mean Betty Jean by Charleys Gamble) looked lively as they went to the track. Savona looked ready, but she didn't seem exactly crazy about the mud. Sticker Patch Cat (Thorn Cat - Smart Appeal by Smart Magician) was liking the wet stuff. Full Storm went right to the lead, Allie's Blue Eyes (Even the Score - Charlomaine by Meadowlake) and Sticker Patch Cat were chasing. Savona had a nice spot just behind the speed. Full Storm began to distance herself from the rest, as Savona started going backwards. Full Storm was cruising late, taking the race by an eye-catching 14 1/2 lengths. Yvons Gold (Gold Alert - Yvons Victress by Manzotti) was the best of the rest, while Sticker Patch Cat was third, and Savona ended up 8th.
