News and Notes

Uptowncharlybrown (Limehouse - La Iluminada by Langfuhr), a favorite of many readers, added the Pasco Stakes to his resume with a 6 length victory. He was helped a bit, however, when Silver Craft (Value Plus - Crafty Casa by Crafty Prospector) hopped at the start. Watch the Replay.

A Random Move Defeats Hazards of Love

As predicted, this one came off the turf, so MTO Hazards of Love (Saint Liam - Spring Rush by Wild Rush) got to run. The main track was sloppy. Regal Soul (Perfect Soul (IRE) - Regal and Fleet by Seattle Slew), Fear the Hat (Broken Vow - Richly Pleasant by Pleasant Tap), and River Oaks (Distorted Humor - Lakeway by Seattle Slew) were scratched. Random Move (Empire Maker - Secret Partner by Rahy) was favored, but Hazards of Love was getting play at 7-2. He made a good impression in the paddock, a nice looking chestnut. Groundwork (Action This Day - Miss Jealous Sword by Crusader Sword) received a shoe repair before the post parade, but there was no delay. Just as they were about to go to the track, Tonto Fontenot (Canadian Frontier - Blue Stream by King of Kings (IRE)) reared, dumping Shane Sellers. Both horse and rider seemed fine after reuniting. Random Move was full of pep on the track. Shawcolataddiction (Sky Classic - Ms Shawcolat by Mr. Shawklit) looked like he wanted no part of the wet stuff. Hazards of Love came out of the gate well, and pressed early leader Max Me Out (Max's Pal - Tambien Me Voy by Orono). Favorite Random Move wasn't far off of these, in third. Hazards of Love moved even with Max Me Out on the turn, and eased on by. But, Random Move was coming. These two battled for a time, but Random Move pulled free for a better than 2 length victory. Interestingly, Random Move was claimed out of the race. Watch the Replay.

Hilda's Passion Entrances the Field

Dreaming of Taylor (Ten Most Wanted - My Dr Anne T L C by Clever Trick) was the only scratch. Entranced (Ghostzapper - Fast and Early by Carson City) was favored, Native Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Native Belle by Forestry) was 10-1. They both made decent impressions in the post parade. I liked the look of debuter Hilda's Passion (Canadian Frontier - Executricker by El Prado (IRE)). Entranced was among those going for the lead, but suddenly Hilda's Passion came up the rail, and jumped in front of everyone. She was soon lengths clear of the field. Tirbracken Lily (Pembroke - Kitty by Forsythe Boy) and Authentic Ethan (Authenticate - Ethan's Secret by Porto Varas) were chasing, with Entranced just behind these. There was very little change in position as the race unfolded, except Hilda's Passion pulled farther and farther ahead. She cruised to a 6-length victory. Entranced held her spot in 4th. Native Kitten didn't challenge much, finishing 7th. I would like to see her go back to the turf, but that might have to wait until spring. Watch the Replay.
