Stakes Result

William's Kitten (colt; Kitten's Joy - Blush by Menifee) made his usually late run in the grade III Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream Park, but flattened out a bit and finished third. I thought he was a little closer to the pace than usual. The winner was Winslow Homer, who outfinished Jackson Bend. Watch the Replay. Read more about the Holy Bull here.

Laheen Shines at the Fair

There were no scratches, Laheen (Ghostzapper - Assess by Seattle Slew) was the lukewarm favorite early on, but took more money as post time approached. She looked good as they headed to the track. First-timer Ready to Sing (More Than Ready - Red Sonnet by Red Ransom) caught my eye. Laheen broke from the rail, and came out of the gate in pretty good shape. Harbin (Gone West - Lexington Girl by Storm Cat) took the early lead, with Ready to Sing the closest pursuer. Laheen and Forever Endeavor (Fusaichi Pegasus - Tricky Indy by A. P. Indy) were not far off. Ready to Sing made a move outside and moved into the lead. Laheen was stuck behind horses. She got free and streaked to the win. Brickyard Helen (Southern Image - Sorbet by Formal Dinner) came 4-wide to pick up second, and debuter Smarty's Dream (Smarty Jones - Dream Regally by Vice Regent) closed a lot of ground late to finish third. Although it was only a 2-length victory for Laheen, it really wasn't that close. Once she found an opening, she was gone. She looked very professional out there, can't wait for her next start. Watch the Replay.

Siente El Trueno is Faster than the Alexes

Chaco Canyon (Victory Gallop - Palmarola (ARG) by Kitwood) was the only scratch. First-timer Siente El Trueno (City Zip - Valid Miss Dress by Valid Appeal) was favored, and he looked the part in the paddock. Fast Alex (Afleet Alex - Unaffordable by Unbridled) was 13-1, and Speedy Mon (Afleet Alex - Ringlet by Maria's Mon) was 52-1. I thought Fast Alex looked ready. Henceforth (Hennessy - Mil Kilates by Gold Alert) was also getting some attention from the bettors. Camp Bret (Forest Camp - Shes Got the Look by Prospector's Music) went to the lead, but Siente El Trueno wasn't far behind. Fast Alex was near the back, and Speedy Mon was about mid-pack. The fractions were pretty quick up front, :22.01, :45.40, but that was no hindrance to Siente El Trueno. He hit the lead and kept on going, winning by more than 6 lengths. Henceforth ran a decent race. He was up close early, got shuffled back, and then came on again for second. Also making up a lot of ground late was Fast Alex, who should improve next time out. Speedy Mon wasn't much of a threat, finishing 8th. Watch the Replay.

A Moonbeam Special

There were no scratches, and the track was fast. Moonbeam Special (Special Rate - Mal's Showntell by Cryptoclearance) was the even-money choice, Afleetmovinangel (Afleet Alex - Dance Awhile by Alleged) was 6-1. Dixie's Ace (Grand Slam - Dixie Schic by Dixieland Band), who was also making her debut, took money as well. Now Lookie (Seneca Jones - Fortunate Way by Fortunate Prospect) was late coming onto the track. Shezafasionista (Fashion Find - Sweetswinginslew by Slewacide) was a little skittish, while Dixie's Ace made a good impression. Mustski (Must Be War - Just Ski Foy by Princely Verdict) protested at the load. It was a pretty even start, except for Mustski, who hit the gate and trailed. Now Lookie took a short lead from her rail spot, but she had plenty of company. Afleetmovinangel was at the back of the leading pack. Moonbeam Special wrestled the lead from Now Lookie and fought off Rose Rock (Action This Day - Pegasus Rose by Fusaichi Pegasus) and Dixie's Ace. Shezafasionista arrived on the scene late to pick up second, but she couldn't catch Moonbeam Special. Afleetmovinangel picked up a couple of spots to finish 5th, not a bad debut.
